    Coronavirus

It's not as simple as that. There appear to be at least two strains. The first appeared to be harder to catch but much more serious - but the number of new infections has declined sharply since January. The second appears to be more infectious but milder.
  2. Why should flying be tax free? If aviation fuel was taxed at the same rate as petrol / diesel plane tickets would cost around £90 extra per 1,000 miles - far more than the passenger levy.
  3. Classic Wes post. Lots of supposition and zero facts. Do tell, what policy are the 'mandarins' frustrating and how?
  4. The real problem is that Ministers nearly always want to make their mark by changing something, but usually don't have any understanding of their departments when they are appointed. The Civil Servants by contrast have often spent 20 years working on the issues. By the time the Minister starts to understand the department they are transferred elsewhere or sacked. Things aren't going to improve unless and until Ministers focus on one portfolio and stick with it for 5 years or more.
  5. Sure they're not saying 'leery'? I use that instead of wary.

More likely because they get shot before getting infected
  7. Sunny in Berlin and Paris today. Coincidence? I think not!
  8. Yeah but DePaul University is ranked 125th in the country, only slightly behind giants of academia like Gonzaga University in Spokane. Its natural their academics will be experts in everything.
  9. I can't imagine any circumstances where you'd be anything less than 100% supportive of anyone with at least six children by three different women. No rly.

    Wow.

    Coronavirus

I just wondered whether other producers could quickly up production to fill gaps, or its a serious supply problem with major implications.

Question. Are they alternatives manufactured in the US or simply Chinese made previously imported stock which is being sold at an inflated price?
  13. You haven't even read the UK's proposals have you? I have attached them. FYI the UK wants to maintain current equivalence in rules for financial services (where it has a surplus with the EU). Undoubtedly the quid pro quo will be that the EU want equivalence in goods, including agriculture and fisheries, where it has a trade surplus with the UK. Both of those will require a mechanism for resolving disputes, tying in both parties to existing rules - the same EU rules the UK currently operates to. That's sovereignty for you - 'we have the right to choose our own rules, we just independently choose not to' https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/868874/The_Future_Relationship_with_the_EU.pdf?mod=article_inline.
  14. He'll be looking to move. He's had 4 years at Saints and at 24 is approaching his peak. He'll be expecting to attract a bigger club now than when he was 20.
  15. If you're getting a strong signal but its still slow then Its probably network congestion - ie too many people trying to connect to that providers masts. I had a similar problem in reverse near Brighton. Vodafone were really slow and switching to BT improved it.
  16. Still haven't grasped the basics. If the choice is between compromising the single market and no deal with the UK wandering off to WTO, they'll go for the wandering off.

Unless they owned the patent to the cure!
  18. Bob Weighton is 111. Amazingly sharp and looks way younger than his age. Even got a full head of hair. Normally I'd say I never want to get that old, but if I was like and him, even apparently living independently, then sure why not? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-51656545

    That's also true.

    Coronavirus

Meh. The death rate in developed countries seems to be less than 1%. Nearly all deaths are associated with advanced age or other underlying health conditions like taking immuno-suppressants as the result of a transplant

Imagine siting a bat virus lab where there are lots of bats.
  22. Jeez you bend over whichever way Boris says to go. Last week you were vehemently denying that negotiations would need to complete by JUne

There are many Coronaviruses but COVID 19 is new in humans
  24. That refusal of politicians to accept responsibility for the consequences of their decisions and instead blame staff is the main reason I stopped working in the NHS. They cut police numbers by 20,000 and lo crime went up - but the go to reason is not staff cuts but supposed inefficiency. If so why are they promising increased police numbers again?

    Coronavirus

Totally agree. Yes its a new strain of flu virus but there are already nearly 200 and the death rate outside of Hunan (where they basically left people locked up and untreated) is lower than many existing strains.
