Also a lot less than doing nothing and allowing runaway climate change to take hold. The global aviation business has revenues of $600bn pa, oil & gas industry around $4.8 trillion - about 60 times more than the costs of mitigation. Even at current levels the UK's air passenger duty raises £2.8bn pa - enough to mitigate climate change and pocket the £1.2bn change.
