Adkins could be great. The only thing that worries me is that the Scunny setup seems very small, with everything necessarily done on the cheap. Saints would be a much bigger club in terms of complexity, pressure, numbers of staff, bigger egos to contend with. I think hed need a good older DoF to guide him.

Quite why Liebherr's daughter would want to hold on to a fractious club that drove out the man her later father trusted to run it has obviously escaped you.

Liebherr made Cortese agreeing to run the club a precondition of buying it. If I was his daughter (who probably has no great interest in running a club) I would continue with my late fathers wishes, unless and until it becomes a major hassle that she just wants to wash her hands of. Driving out Cortese would be just that sort of trigger imo.

No. This is the team captain going on record saying "the decision was taken by the club and at the end of the day its nothing to to do with the players because we are employed to play football". It says nothing one way or the other about the reasons for Pardews dismissal, just as you'd expect.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cortese is consulting with him, taking advice. He might even be lining him up as some kind of DoF to guide a young and relatively inexperienced Head Coach like Adkins. Both of those would be very good moves. No way would he be the main man though imo.

Reminds me of the time a previous boss was recruiting. He took so long to draw up a shortlist that by the time the interviews came around one candidate had died, one had decided to emigrate, two had found other jobs, the fifth wasnt interested anymore and the final one turned out to be crap!

I think the team slightly underperformed overall under Pardew, given the quality we had. One of the failings was not solving our inability to kill off 'weaker' teams. When were good we were very good, but too often the players just didnt seem up for it. If there had been obvious incremental progress throughout his time I would have been more disappointed in his going. As it was you couldnt escape the feeling that there was some kind of intermittent but chronic misfire in the team that just didnt seem to be addressed.
