  1. I'm yet to be convinced but thanks for the feedback from those who went. The nagging question I have (along with a few fellow forum members above) is.... if these tactics are the best way to get out of this division then why has no other team succeeded with it (to my knowledge)? It all sounds very clever and sophisticated but if it's such a good way of playing why isn't anyone else doing it? Surely if its the best way of playing (in this league in particular) then we wouldn't be alone? #logic (sorry, make that 3 nagging questions, but all amounting to the same thing! )
  2. Spot on...
  3. Thanks; my hunch was that it was a quote from a while back 👍

  5. Is this from a new interview this week? Link? Cheers 👍

    Israel

Sorry, new to the thread.... Has anyone blamed the Romans yet? Personally, I'd give the land back to the Natufians or Canaanites.
  7. Doesn't look like the Russell Martin tactical doctrine memo has reached the lower echelons of the academy yet...
  8. ...
  9. I would take that article with a pinch of salt... The fella being interviewed (from Hampshire Live) said this: "..unlike Onuachu, Stewart has bags of experience at this level"... not the best description of a player who has only made 13 appearances in the Championship...

Source? Can't see any mention of it on soshal meeja... Cheers 👍
  11. Just watched the 1st episode of 'The Reckoning'. Dark stuff. Bafta winning performance from Coogan.
  12. Would never have happened under Russ-ball. Wanyama had a much safer option passing back to our own keeper...
  13. More importantly, where are we on the momentum curve...?
  14. Maybe, maybe not. I just think there's more chance of our inconsistent strikers scoring a few semi-flukey goals from a plethora of half chances versus scoring from a smaller subset of chances that are put on a plate for them. Yes, sounds counter-intuative perhaps, but I've been watch Saints for far too long to know not to apply logic to such calculations Exhibit A - Che Adam's speculative shot from almost the half way line versus Man City the other season, yet give him a chance 5 yards out (after a build up of 25 tip-tappy passes) and he'll invariably fluff it...
  15. Whilst we had a decent number of good opportunities, the trouble with Martin's tactics is that its all about quality of chances rather than quantity. When you have decent forwards who can capitalise on the decent chances then quality over quantity is a sound tactic, but when you have average strikers like we do, you need quantity over quality to stand the best chance of despatching the likes of Rotherham. I therefore conclude that Martin's tactics were a contributing factor in us not winning on Saturday.
  16. The 2nd half tactics dampened down the atmosphere. I almost dropped off at one point (and I was standing up!). Play exciting football and the crowd will get excited...
  17. Yep, it's totally the cretinous name. It's just a holiday FFS. Just call it a holiday like normal people would, because that's what it f**king is. It doesn't need a new 'trendy' word. FFS.
  18. Yep.... and I bet you've never seen us together in the same room....
  19. Who's to say he wouldn't end up as one of those players who plays within themselves at Saints but blossoms when playing for a better managed team...? There's a fair few precedents of this after all...
  20. Yeah, but if we hadn't meekly/naively given the ball back then that passage of play would never have taken place.... I'm not saying it was the one single event that decided the outcome of the game, but small incidents can have significant ramifications... #butterflyeffect
  21. Yep, had a bit of a Jordan Pickford vibe about him IMO
  22. In his post match interview, Martin said they were trying to get a message out to the players not to give them the ball back.... Either they weren't shouting loud enough or Adams was too thick to obey instructions... Either way, absolutely idiotic to give them the ball back in that scenario. Every likelihood that we'd have held out for the win if we hadn't been so naive / stupid in that moment. They were only ever going to get one or two chances and we gave it to them on a plate.
  23. Indeed. The club even put out this info-graphic when he joined...
  24. Please tell me you've just made that up and that it isn't actually a thing? Please?
