Ah, cool. I must say, John Lewis's service was exemplary. Ordered online on Friday afternoon and picked up from my local Waitrose store on Saturday lunchtime. The Waitrose staff were a little unprepared as this is the first week that John Lewis have started using Waitrose stores for their 'click and collect' service but they couldn't have been more pleasant. Customer service in the UK is alive and well (on rare occasions) :-) I'd defo recommend John Lewis for online Christmas shopping.

Ah, but look on the bright side....justifying taking our kids out of school during term time for cheaper holidays just got a whole lot less complicated...

Bear in mind that c.75% of public sector works didn't vote for a strike so it should be pretty much business as usual I'd have thought.

I'm really looking forward to Wednesday. There will be much more room on my privatised train service and London won't be so crowded, so a much more pleasant onward journey to the office. I think they should strike one day a week until further notice. Just think how much that would save the exchequer annually. Win win.

Understand where you're coming from, but comparing "tragic deaths" (evil dictators aside, are there any other types of death?) is ultimately a futile exercise. How many people die on our roads every year? Somewhere in the 'thousands'. The reason we didn't hear about the "100" deaths on our roads over the weekend or the next British soldier to have been killed on duty is because they are not "one off" events. They are sadly all too frequent. A respected footballer and current international manager committing suicide is thankfully a very rare event which, rightly or wrongly, makes it more "newsworthy" in today's 24 hour media world. I'm not saying I agree or disagree with the news priorities and coverage yesterday, but any debate about it is not going to change human nature I'm afraid (IMO of course)

So, start of a new week. Grateful if someone could timetable the key dates and times that we should anticipate this week's 'laugh out loud' moments. Just need as much prior warning as possible to ensure I don't have a mouthful of coffee. There's only so much splutter induced liquid caffeine a computer screen and keyboard can take before it's toast...
