hi Weston...if coppell is now 'available' (following his self imposed 6 month sabbatical) and cortese is keen to install a Sporting Director, then any idea what the 'hold up' is? I don't buy this 'by next summer' smokescreen (for want of a less controversial word). It suggests to me that Coppell is not sure it's what he wants rather than cortese not rushing into an appointment. Reading between the lines of course.

And to think the majority on here were saying a mere 6 months ago that nothing good would ever come out of going into administration. I bet my son's pocket money that in 5 years time we'll be better off than if we'd managed to avoid administration in April.

Why is there a general consensus that "must win" games can only gain that heralded status towards the end of a campaign? If one takes the season as a whole then there are probably around 15 "must win" games in total. I say we should try and win some of these "must win" games earlier in the season....starting with Charlton on Saturday.... IMHO of course

Could well be the case, but, like I say, if the role is 'important' (which one has to assume that Cortese believes it is) then waiting a year to 'get the right man' would seem to negate (somewhat) the 'importance' factor? But there again, what do I know? I've never run a football club before....

Erm, far be it from me to tell Mr Cortese how to run a football club, but if he believes the DoF is a crucial role then why would he wait until next Summer to fill it? Either it's an important role or it isn't....surely? One assumes he realises that that there is a transfer window in January during which a DoF might be quite a useful asset too? (To satisfy the 'negativity police', the above is not a criticism or judgement, just a query based on observation)

Totally agree. I was just questioning 'poster X' who suggested 'poster Y' didn't know what he was talking about. 'Poster Y' may well have been correct in suggesting that "Pardew probably wasn't their first choice". Just an observation. That's all.
