I think you've probably addressed your valid concerns by acknowledging that the players took their foot off the gas as soon as the tie was, to all intents and purposes, done and dusted. I agree that "better players would exploit that" but the likelihood is that Saints wouldn't be coasting around the field if we were playing better quality players and in a tie where the result wasn't yet nailed on. I'm more than happy with the 'scrappy' performance. I'm sure if we'd gone all gung-ho for a more convincing display and then lost to Newcastle on Sunday we'd have people on here on Sunday evening bemoaning the unnecessary additional effort we put in vs Vitesse... Just my two pennies worth.

Has anyone worked out yet what the point is of splitting the teams into arbitrary groups ahead of the draw? I'm assuming its UEFA trying to make it appear more 'exciting' than it actually is but maybe there's a more scientific reason that I'm missing somewhere....

He said in the interview earlier that Koeman wants him to play the same way that he was playing for Swansea and Spurs and that he's been 'forced' to play different tactics the last two season and as such it'll take him a few games to get back in the swing of playing 'properly'. I can't remember if Toby hit the ground running or whether he grew into the role.

I'm slightly surprised the local media haven't made more of it TBH.

So, this new stadium that "crippled" us.... Will that be the same stadium (aka infrastructure) that made us a viable proposition for serious investors thus ultimately being a key factor in turning around our fortunes? Maybe we should have taken a leave out of Pompey:s book and "crippled" the club by overspending on players we couldn't afford instead?
