To my eyes, Clyne is just as good as Shaw, perhaps a smidgen better given he offers a bit more threat in front of goal than Shaw does when playing in an advanced position.
I guess Shaw grabs the media (and Hodgson's) attention over and above Clyne more because of his age more than anything else (not forgetting that Clyne hasn't started as many games this season of course, which is obviously a significant factor)
