Why do you think that? It is pretty standard practice in the industry, especially for young players when they are sold.

How about the huge TV deal we are part of? Plus deals aren't all paid at once, they are often spread over multiple years. -

:mcinnes: I'm puzzled as to what point you are trying to make!!! Buying a player and him being your own and making him better is completely different to my point about loaning another club's youngsters, developing them and not benefitting from developing them and having them block pathways. If you can't see the difference between the two then there really is no hope! On the other hand... if your point is that I beleived the press about Semedo coming... then you missed that I said in the post... "seemingly on his way". You know what seemingly means don't you? -

It isn't suspicious , there was a story in The Sun linking us with him. Random members of the public read the story, placed bets on it and the bookmakers reduced the odds. None of that means there is any truth to it. Since promotion back to the Premier League, we haven't loaned a youngster from a top club (Bertrand wasn't a youngster he was 24 and with a view to buy). There is little benefit loaning and developing a 20 year old winger like Roberts for another club when we have a very talented 20 year old winger of our own in Josh Sims. -
He wasn't remotely as bad last season as some fans like to make out... I know it isn't just down to the keeper if you get a clean sheet. But he really didn't do that much wrong last season, people just focus on the limited number of mistakes and ignore the rest.

Souness was the manager who saw Ali Dia in training and thought yep I'll sign him and play him in a Premier League match.

Alternatively... we've tied down key players and that shouldn't be overlooked or dismissed. -
Exactly, loyalty bonuses would form part of the contract he signed in 2016. They wouldn't need to be added later, they are pretty standard to include.

That photo on it's own doesn't prove it is full contact. They aren't wearing shin pads for a start. Will you ever learn to spell his name correctly before he leaves? It is van Dijk, not Van Djke

If you follow the links from that to the original source of the rumour, it links back to a story from circa 29th June that we discussed at the time. I think it is unlikely to be true. -

He is effectively a very well paid one of these for training games... It also means Forster, McCarthy and Taylor can go to 1st team games and Harry Lewis can benefit from playing for the under 23s.

You know managers also get scouted, not just players? Pochettino & Pellegrino were both at Spanish clubs. -
