  1. His position isn't as black and white as that when Saints system is so flexible. Can his position really be only described as left back? He spends a huge amount of his time in a wingers position and could quite easily play full-time as a winger. £30m is not a world record for a winger.
  2. But is it a "ridiculous" price? I don't think it is, I can't think of many more impressive "fullback/wingers" aged 18 than Luke Shaw. He looks more impressive than Bale at the same age. If Shaw really is interesting Man City/Man Utd/Chelsea that also bumps the price up in any bidding war. Any club could get 15 years of quality service out of him!
  3. Not if Cortese plans to spend large amounts regardless of player sales (as he has done in both seasons so far), knows he does have large resources behind him and is true to his word on building a team from the academy.
  4. But if Cortese is planning to sign players for large amounts in the upcoming windows regardless of player sales (like in each season in the Premier League so far under him), whats the point of selling existing good players? You say "world record" like the Daily Mail article does say it'll be a world record for a fullback, but Shaw effectively plays as a winger for us for large spells of a game with midfielders covering him at left back. He is more impressive than Gareth Bale was at the same age.
  5. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2537848/Could-Shaw-worth-Alves-City-set-break-world-record-fee-pay-30m-18-year-old-Saint.html#ixzz2q8QniLQg James Milner signed for City for £28.5m, why is it daft to think City would bid £30m for Shaw? As for "should we take it?" If Cortese plans to continue to spend big money regardless of player sales like he has both seasons we've had back in the Premier League then there is no need to sell Shaw, might as well keep him and continue to strengthen the team. If sold it also sends out a message if he is sold that Cortese's academy plan won't work.
  6. You think the 3rd best team in Spain is after one of the two players you regularly criticise at a mid table Premier League side! Does that not suggest you may be wrong about their abilities?
  7. He has only served 1 game of his 3 match ban. He will miss the West Brom and Sunderland games and will be back for the Yeovil FA Cup game.
  8. Why? The difference in quality between Boruc and Davis/Gazzaniga is a lot bigger than it is between Wanyama and Cork.
  9. This link explains how do do all the code available on the forum... http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/misc.php?do=bbcode
  10. And that makes it better? Ramirez is frustrating at times and inconsistent, but there is clearly a very good player in there. I still wouldn't write him off yet.
  11. Says the man that has given a childish derogatory nickname to a player of the club he "supports"...
  12. Pulis keeping them up is one thing and I think there is a reasonable chance he will, but Saints are still along way ahead of Palace in terms of quality of player and it would take a huge swing and large amounts of money they won't spend to reverse that.
  13. Updated table after 20 Premier League games...
  14. He'd only be a loss if he wasn't replaced in the same window. Both Hooiveld and Yoshida are below the level Saints need.

  16. I think Lambert and Lallana were going to go regardless of Walcott's injury.
  17. This is a fake Twitter account with only 2 followers and only 1 tweet... https://twitter.com/SouthamptomFC Also why would the club add a ! at the end of the sentence?
  18. First referee appointment decision after all this and they send us the World Cup final ref... Premier League ‏@premierleague 23m Howard Webb has been appointed referee for Southampton v West Brom on Saturday 11 January #SOUWBA Don't mess with the Don!
  19. This is from training at Staplewood on 30th December 2013...
  20. I want the same as I do for every cup draw... the easiest opponent left in the competition at St Mary's, so Southampton have the best possible chance of progressing and winning the cup.
  21. Downing is unbeaten in the league, maybe a new manger would actually be better for us.
  22. Southampton FC ‏@SouthamptonFC1h Jesús Pérez: "He (Lambert) got a dead leg. We don't want to take any risks when we are in a tough period for injuries." #saintsfc Southampton FC ‏@SouthamptonFC1h Jesús Pérez: "Same with Gastón [Ramírez]. He played 90 minutes in the last game. We don't want to take risks." #saintsfc
  23. The Saints forum http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?5-The-Saints is for "100% Saints discussion." The General Sports forum http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?39-General-Sports is "discussion of general sporting topics including non-Saints-related football and all other sports. The old cricket and motorsport threads have been moved here". You also appear to be one of the many people that don't understand the definition of irony.
  24. Saints related? Or random Barry Sanchez musing?
  25. We have our 3rd and 4th choice centre backs and our 2nd choice keeper playing today. We all know we need more strength in those areas and left back cover for Shaw.
