All is not lost... Adam Blackmore @bigadamsport Had chat tonight with Alex Buttner's agent , & tech dir'tor at Vitesse - putting it out for @BBCRadioSolent 0720 sport in morning #saintsfc Adam Blackmore @bigadamsport One headline from Buttner's agent: thinks deal can still happen, 3rd party issues resolved, he says. #saintsfc in control of deal.

And who's fault was it he played in goal...? The story goes the Newcastle coaches put him there as they were short of keepers for the trial game and didn't invite him back for another trial to see him in his proper position. It was their mistake and they ended up buying back for £15 million 10 years later..

I suggest both of you should look it up, not me. Shearer had a trial for Newcastle United and they turned him down. http://www.shearer9.com/bio.shtml

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kk910_SmXPk He thinks he has a "wingspan"!

First Davis, now Cropper. There is a career in this for you Turkish!

I know you aren't being serious (as ever), but just in case... Alan Shearer was a Newcastle reject, should Saints have turned him away?

http://www.ussoccer.com/teams/u-20-mnt/c/cody-cropper.aspx An American youth international (with an English Dad), was at Ipswich Town and released by them in the summer. On trial for Saints tonight in the development squad. With a proper under 21 league coming in soon they needed a keeper at this level. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kk910_SmXPk He thinks he has a "wingspan"!

Everton are confident it isn't a problem with them and Naismith... http://www.evertonfc.com/news/archive/2012/07/10/blues-confident-on-naismith

A chant for this Saturday at St Mary's... Kanu is ****ing magic, he's playing hide and seek. But first he signed a contract, to screw the Skates this week!
-
They are giving trials to two keepers, one released from Kettering Town and one from Halifax Town.

Didn't take a while at all, he showed he was clueless soon after he took charge with a number of comments about the situation showing a complete disregard for creditors and sporting integrity.

When did Buttner say he was a Southampton player? All I've seen him say is that he was impressed with what he was shown and told about the club's ambitions. Plus, even if he did say it - why would that mean Cortese stopped the deal?
-
He has a long accurate kick, something missing from Davis and Bialkowski's game... [video=youtube;-SHTGdf1oFs]

A top flight team in England? I wouldn't count on it and even if he did, he doesn't fit the profile of what Saints have been doing in the transfer market in the last few years. Saints signed their 27 year old captain who is coming towards his peak. A bit different from signing a 33 year old on the decline. He was never really that great and now he is on the decline. Saints will be looking at better. The hcdajfu sticky thread is there for a reason, and that reason is to stop countless threads about players people would like Saints to sign. This place would be flooded with them otherwise. The hcdajfu thread is 71 pages long full of things like this, imagine if it started spilling out to the forum with individual threads. There is no substance to this other than you would like it to happen. It isn't a "rumour" it is a random whim signing thread.
-
I bet we haven't. He is 33 years old, he really doesn't fit the profile of what Saints seem to be looking at. The last player over 30 years old Saints signed was in 2010. In any case shouldn't random "he could do a job for us" suggestions be put in this thread...? http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?37654-Summer-2012-HCDAJFU-Thread-Premier-League-Special-Edition

Or both.

There is no money from hosting a Rugby World Cup to justify giving some to Saints to expand St Mary's for hosting minor games in 2015. The last Rugby World Cup in 2011 had games at stadiums with capacities of 15,000 and 18,000.
-
He is 27 years old, captained his country and Glasgow Rangers and played 111 games for English Premier League sides (far more than any other current Saints player) as a regular for both Aston Villa and Fulham. Yet you describe him as a "weary old hasbeen/never quite were/wanabee journeyman". Bizarre as ever Charlie! Steven Davis will be a key first team player and I think given his background there is a good chance he will become Southampton's captain.

The Aviva mortgage probably started earlier than 2001. They needed the money to pay for the construction/materials/labour etc during the build process. So maybe 1999 or 2000 perhaps?
-
Maybe that explains Cortese commissioning this for Staplewood training ground... I know it is out of date ( I couldn't find a more recent one), but it is still true - construction material prices in the last 12 years have increased significantly.
-
The price of steel in 2012 has significantly increased since St Mary's was being built in late 1990's/early 2000's. As have the prices other materials like concrete. There is a lot of concrete and steel needed to make a football stadium and a lot of the overall cost of a stadium will be in these materials.

What I said was true. I said "if they did the same over a year" i.e. 365 days. I did not say "if they did the same over a year using the current opening times excluding things like Christmas Day etc".
