So Birch at least admits it isn't a "ruling" despite what the BBC say. It has been in the Football League rulebook on their website all season that they wouldn't get a points deduction for merely remaining in admin this summer.

You are also making the assumption that £7m is the majority of the total budget. In reality, none of us know what the budget is. Although spending £7m on one player, to me at least suggests it is quite healthy.

It may be a long wait, they don't have a lot of cash to splash and will probably prioritise Pienaar higher.

So you don't think being 8th top scorer (whilst at a newly promoted mid table club) in possibly the world's best league shows that you don't need a great deal of pace to score goals? That seems to be what some are saying of Lambert.

I did also say, "8th overall" top scorer in the Premier League. Is that not a big deal?

He may well be quicker, but that isn't what got him his 15 league goals. Holt would be beaten for pace by a large number of Premier League defenders so relies on other attributes, in the same way Lambert does.

How many of Holt's league goals last season do you think came down to beating a Premier League defender for pace? A number of Lambert come about due to his clever movement away from centre-backs and onto fullback's to beat them in the air at the far post on diagonals. No matter how good a defender the likes of Ashley Cole are, Lambert will beat him in the air every time. Pace also not required for his superb free-kicks and penalty taking ability, nor his long range shots and good passing, first touch and vision.

How did Grant Holt become the Premier League's 2nd highest English scorer last season (8th overall in the League with 15 league goals)? Not that I like to compare Holt with Lambert (as I think Lambert has more to his game than Holt), but both lack pace.
