Who is this week's mystery signing?

Seems unlikely... @FootballAgent12 Bill Schweinder Saints are going to bid for Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel #lcfc #saintsfc 3 minutes ago via web Favorite Retweet Reply https://twitter.com/#!/FootballAgent12/status/158671006834245632 -
To be fair to Celtic they were runners up in the UEFA Cup in 2003. But then so were Fulham in 2010 and Middlesbrough in 2006. So hardly something unachievable for Southampton in the future.

I dread to think how Dave Merrington would pronounce his name. -
He has been linked in the press to Villa, Newcastle, Sunderland and QPR.

Saints' spent more in the summer and so far in January than the majority of Championship clubs. Cork, Hooiveld, De Ridder and Fox did not come cheap, nor did new contracts for a large number of players or the £15k p/w for Tadanari Lee. The outlay on them is significant for a Championship club and also shown to be successful, as the club is top of the league in mid January.

Norwich are 9th in the Premier League in mid January with many players that were in League One two years ago in their starting line-up. The jump really isn't that great if the team is managed well and recruited well.

Here is the proof of Gary Hoopers Skills!
Matthew Le God replied to Matthew Le Tissier's topic in The Saints
That is exactly what I've been saying. It takes a different sort of skill to be a goal poacher, you need a good football brain in order to get in the right place at the right time. -
Hooper is proven at a higher level than Rhodes. Scored 3 goals in Europe last season and was 3rd top scorer in the Championship, whilst playing for a relegation threatened side in 2009/10. Scored more goals that season than £35m man Andy Carroll who was playing for the team that won the league...

As I said earlier... - Hooper scored in Europe vs Braga, Udinese and Rennes. - Hooper was the Championship's 3rd top scorer with 19 league goals goals for a struggling S****horpe United side in his last year in England in 2009/10 aged 21. - He even outscored Andy Carroll at Newcastle that season, who was playing for a side that walked the league. -
No, you may not.

It is a skill to be in the right place to score such goals on a regular basis. -

He'd easily be Saints' best player on FM. -

Neil Lennon has confirmed an enquiry made by Saints, Nigel Adkins was coy on the subject but didn't rule him out like he has with other names put to him. Adds credibility to what until then was just rumour. -

If he does sign, I dare you to get "Hooper" on the back of a Saints shirt and wear it around Glasgow. I think you would get an interesting mix of reactions from Rangers/Celtic fans.

Nothing wrong with being a goal poacher, it is a skill in its own right to get in the right place at the right time and finish it off. Did Lineker no harm.

A goal poacher like Gary Lineker I think describes him best, lots of goals from inside the six yard box... [video=youtube;jHovSSW-Dwg]
