There are big differences between a membership scheme and being on the ticket database. It has been common practice for the club to do restricted sales and linked games for some games for years. It is hardly out of the blue. They have had plenty of time to get themselves on the database.

Cortese was asked in December 2010 if Chamberlain or Lallana would be sold in January 2011 and he said "No". Since then, Lallana signed a 4 and half year deal and Chamberlain has not been sold 19 days into the window. Little reason not to believe Cortese so far as he has pretty much delivered on all fronts so far.
