I think you will actually find in this thread I have said that Cortese only said those things in December because he knew the player wouldn't leave even when the inevitable bids came in. He would have been foolish to make such a claim without knowing the players intentions and it "looks" like Cortese and I will be showed to be correct.

He only came on in the 79th minute for a League One side playing the best team in England, at the time Man Utd were leading and playing possession football to see out the game. How you make a judgement based on that I don't know! -

In the faceless world of internet forums it is impossible to judge if someone is being serious or fishing for a bite. So I bite everything to make sure! -

Absolutely! By no means solely base your opinion of a player on it. After all I'm the one that other teams fans base their opinion of Saints players on. But it is the biggest scouting network for footballers anywhere in the world with over 1,500 scouts and hundreds of thousands of players. Okay, these "scouts" are fans of the clubs and not professionals. But they do see the players week in, week out. A number of clubs and managers have admitted to using Football Manager as an intitial scouting tool and then follow up by properly scouting them. Everton for a start use it... http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/2008/11/14/everton-sign-deal-to-scout-for-world-s-best-players-in-football-manager-video-game-86908-20893667/ -

The deals for Guly, Lallana and Chaplow would have been significant for a League One side. Jose Fonte? David Connolly? Dan Harding? Radhi Jaidi? Danny Butterfield? Guly? (Serie A to League One is a step down) etc etc -

I'm sure the deals for Lallana, Chaplow and Guly were substantial for a League One side. Transfer cost, signing on fees, agent fees and wages etc. -

It is not "just paper talk". Damien Comoli from Liverpool has been at Saints games watching him, Arsene Wenger and Alex Ferguson have both publicly stated their interest. They have not done the same with Pilkington! What is "paper talk" is that Saints are selling him, even though Cortese stated he wouldn't be (and it looks like he is right). -

Pilkington doesn't have some of the biggest clubs in the world after him. I'm not saying Pilkington is a bad player of course he isn't, but I'd put Lallana and Chamberlain ahead of Pilkington and Bennett in a top 4 list of League One wingers. -

Craig Mackail-Smith -
It was based on some facts. Arsene Wenger, Damian Comoli and Alex Ferguson have all been shown publicly to be interested with Chamberlain. However all the written press completely ignored the interview in December when Nicola Cortese (backed with the financial security of the club being owned by the estate of a billionaire) said that Chamberlain won't be sold. None the less the media continued with the story and are now shown to be wrong. Many newspaper reports also contained significant factual errors and inaccuracies.
