Pochettino targets Champions League spot next season
sandwichsaint replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Anyone reckon Moyes would have got 11 years at Saints? -
Gentle Bump, ticket still available.

I have one spare, back of Block 39, £35, meet outside before game. PM me or leave email on here.

I think the word you are looking for is Fallaini, when he plays they play, when he doesn't they are just another prem team; pound for pound we are not a million miles away from them now, some decent business in the summer (and Moyes moving on would help) and we could have their number next season. -
Always! Been pretty good all season, hope it doesn't degenerate now the pressure's off. Very pleased with my choice of STs, 38+39 has been good all season, and to think I nearly got all premature and plumped for blocks 1+2.

Pochettino targets Champions League spot next season

If we are serious about any of this then Liverpool are a pretty good benchmark. There are 5 teams clearly above them and they compete with Everton for 6th/7th. What do we want our second season to look like? a) 'second season syndrome', fade away badly and have to scrap to stay up or possibly relegated b) about the same as this year, 'consolidation', finish comfortably-ish 'mid table' c) continue our momentum, we are on a mission, the next level is top-8, top-6, top 4. Judging him on his previous thoughts and deeds I would say NC is a c) man all day long, a) and b) are not on the agenda, next year's challenge is simple ... finish above Liverpool! I think we might just do that. -
Swansea 0-0 SAINTS // Post-Match Reaction
sandwichsaint replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Watch the disallowed goal, Swansea's defender 5m away and with the best view in the ground puts his head in his hands when Vorm drops it and we bundle it in. Likewise several other defenders turn away - not one appeal bar the goalie (who always appeal in these situations). Memo to refs and linespeople, if defenders have their heads in their hands it's because they've just conceded a goal. **** poor decision from the lino who was just 'guessing' on a handball. -
How wrong can one person be? Niemi was very good, but he was also not fit to lace Shilton's boots, the two statements are not incompatible. Shilton was a world player, regardless of 'standards have improved' (whatever that might mean?).

English Saints v Foreign Saints - who would win ?
sandwichsaint replied to The9's topic in The Saints
Where would our 'English' team finish in the English PL? ....... top 4-5 at least? Doubt half the sides could field a credible English X1 (we're weak at CB but beyond that we can field a League Cup standard all-English X1) Viva la fairplay revolution. -
15 seconds of this and you know what you're getting, any pub in any town.

Lots of people rave about Schmiecal at Leicester. Where will he be next year? I nominate Leicester. -
Apparently it is, can't be bothered to follow the links but it is referred to above as this and my nipper told me today ( via Talksport, the font of all knowledge) that the players vote in January , make of that what you will. Seems a bit silly asking footballers to remember what happened last season ... perhaps more accurately it should be described as an August-to-January player of the season. Somebody with more time than me needs to go and check this out!
-
Why is it a January-to-January vote? Surely a lot of footballers own these 'smart phones' nowadays (or could borrow one from their agent?). Perhaps somebody needs to design an application ('app') that will measure players' performance/impact from August to somewhen about now? A proper PL August-to-now list ought to include Williams, Michu, Baines, Schneiderlin, Vertongen, Maloney.

Very good; don't over do it though, this is SWF, not Paxman on Newsnight.

English Saints v Foreign Saints - who would win ?

Obviously depends if it was raining and what day of the week it's played on. In the interests of fairness it would obviously be played on a neutral ground ... I nominate Hartlepool away on a Tuesday. -
How many different teams have Saints played in the top division?
sandwichsaint replied to Tom8558's topic in The Saints
Swansea? -
This x10, absolutely no way were there 15k empty seats, which is equivalent to the ground being only 80% full, at OT this season .... risible. Only obvious 'empty seats' was a patch high up in the opposite quadrant, remainder of the ground pretty much 'full' bar the odd single seats, ground easily 90% full. On the opposite hand how come when Saints give out ever-increasing maximums when I turn on MOD I see plenty of empty seats (in both home and away areas)?

Ramiez, time to settle or not good enough?
sandwichsaint replied to southamptonfclegend's topic in The Saints
Ramirez had a reasonable game yesterday. I'm (easily) impressed that he hasn't gone into sulk mode yet, nor is he a prima donna, nor is there any evidence that he doesn't want to be here. Au contraire, I see a young man that is almost trying too hard to be successful and too hard to be liked. He constantly wants the ball and constantly tries to get us moving forward, yesterday he was excellent in defence and frequently worked hard to deny W Ham space, or to double up with Clyne. He clearly has great technical ability and good spatial awareness of the position of defenders and his own players, unfortunately he doesn't have the mind set to do the obvious/simple thing and feels the pressure to 'create' every time he has the ball. He is courageous (stupid?) in possession and always backs himself to take opponents on (when the easy ball would be the obvious alternative). If we could transplant a 30 year old top footballing brain into the body of a 21 year old innocent abroad we would have a world player on our hands, unfortunately we have a 21 year old who wants to be doing and taking everything, to the detriment of his own and the team's performance. I think we (the management) need to take a good long look at what GR can contribute (ability, inspiration, goals, improvisation, hard work) and get much more of a focus and a grip on this. No more 40 yd freekicks (no more free kicks full stop), no more running down blind alleys followed by the embarrassingly big fall. And FFS get his conditioning up to a level where he can play 90 minutes! If we could do all this we would have our very own Cantona on our hands, easily good enough for where we want to go but very much a work in progress at this stage. -
Doubleonothing you have a PM, you're in.
