SSN is quite funny at the moment. On the breaking news strap they have "Portsmouth claim talks with HMRC are on going" closely followed by "Sky Sports Sources understand talks between Portsmouth and HMRC have stalled".
-
yes, and now the reporter outside FP has said it's "highly unlikely they'll be liquidated given they still have games to play and revenue from that".....erm aren't they losing more than they're bringing in?

Trouble is a lot of contracts contain clauses people wouldn't normally sign up to......but they need a job. My sister is a solicitor and in her first job she was advised not to sign the contract because it contained a clause saying if she left then she wouldn't take up a position in another law firm withing 15 miles of the city centre for six months. She didn't have a "proper" contract of employment in the whole time she was with that firm. In my experience though union advice tends to be pretty good. I've never had anyone "sugar coat" what they say and at least you'll know where you stand.

I'm guessing you know it's not a female voice?

I think the thing here is that you give the impression that you're always negative. It may not be true and it may not be your intention but that is the feeling amongst most people. There's been a few occasions where I've met a fellow supporter, asked if they post or look on here and they say "That Alpine - what a ****". Maybe that's the reaction you're looking for though? I've nothing against you but you can't really be surprised when you get stick, can you?

My grandad was in the Tank core. I've no idea what unit but he was born in Frimley so probably a local one. I think he operated a flame thrower though i could be mistaken and he spent a lot of time in Belgium and Germany. He never really talked about it either but I imagine it's not an easy topic to either bring up or talk about. I really should find out more about it.

As the point of this thread is about whether we'd be surprised well, no, I wouldn't be surprised. Reading the Guardian article today it does imply that a lot of pressure is being put on Pardew for both results and good football. I don't think we'll get any change before the end of the season but maybe in the summer. As Cortese and Liebherr seem to want decent football I wouldn't expect someone like Davies or Boothroyd but there is someone out there who was rumoured to be the first choice candidate before Pardew that has a reputation for getting promotion and playing good football; Steve Coppell. He even knows Wally Downes. Do I think this is a good idea? I don't know. Personally I'd probably give Pardew a decent chance for next season but NC and ML may not feel we have the luxury of time.

Sponging Champagne Socialist Denham ordered to repay £1,265
revolution saint replied to dune's topic in The Lounge
I'm all for sensible debate so can everyone refrain from calling labour politicians "socialist"? They're not and no one except a few weird people claim they are. Dennis Skinner and Tony Benn excepted of course. -
Ah the game they lost? Yes i did see it. I saw no reason why he should play in the centre of midfield. I respect your right to an opinion but I think it's wrong.
-
I'm willing to wait. Why would we play him in the centre though? Lallana can do that and has done that. He scored the majority of his goals this season when he moved inside. Puncheon has pace, can take a player on and can cross. Where do we need that? Wide left - it's a no brainer.
-
Puncheon will not play in the centre.

Terry dropped as England captain
revolution saint replied to Under Weststand's topic in General Sports
It's football. Just football. None of us have a right to either know or care about a private and personal issue. It doesn't matter and it shouldn't matter. i really don't understand how people can care about the private lives of people they don't know. I mean that "father of the year" stuff - when he won that did thousands of blokes suddenly wake up and say, "You know what? I really should be more like John Terry"? It's Doubtful. Oh and just to chuck something else into the mix: Bobby Robson, remember him? We all love him right? Great bloke etc etc......well his personal life was rumoured to be full of affairs but the difference is that they hardly ever got out. It doesn't affect how we look at him now and thankfully it didn't when he was England manager. -
Saints .v. sailor boys game; Very Disappointed
revolution saint replied to TijuanaTim's topic in The Saints
My Uncle can't get a ticket. He went to loads of games in the 70's and 80's including the stamford bridge stampede and the Marseille Mayhem. Heck he even bought Russell Osman a pint. Trouble is he lives in Bitterne so i've had to explain that he really can't moan about it until he moves abroad. He's now relocating to Canada in the hope that someone can offer him a ticket. -
Forget Pompey - today and Tuesday count
revolution saint replied to Legod Third Coming's topic in The Saints
I'd agree with this. There are going to be a lot of people who won't though. I think the question can be defined as "what game would you rest Lambert in?". Drop him today and if we don't win our play off hopes are very very slim. We might get to the JPT final but our season will feel over after the final. Drop him for MK Dons - how bad is it going to feel not getting to a final? Drop him for Pompey and it's going to feel like we've given up before we've even taken to the pitch. I'm not sure the majority who queued and struggled to get tickets will accept not fielding our best (or close to it) team. Like it or not there is a lot of pride at stake. -

To be honest you seem like a nice bloke and especially with helping out Ron but (and there's always a but) you don't really deserve a ticket over people who have been to games more often than you. Who's more deserving, someone who lives locally and goes to games or someone who lives a long way away? It's sad that you can't get a ticket but you can't really expect the club to hold back tickets for fans that live in other countries. The good thing is that you should be able to get tickets for other games - we don't sell out for them so why not reschedule for another weekend? -
Why is there a crown? Apart from the fact that Mrs Windsor handed us the FA Cup is there any other link? Personally I'd keep the design we've got except change the ball back but appreciate this thread isn't about that.

Think we did six consecutive wins under Branfoot? Hard to believe isn't it?

The Play Offs, The JPT or beating 'them'?
revolution saint replied to Noodles34's topic in The Saints
I'm fairly sure that beating Pompey doesn't mean they go bust or get relegated. It might mean some people can wind up a few gullible fans on the internet but has anyone tried speaking to many Pompey fans in real life? They're like we were last season - they can't summon up the energy for much banter because they're already screwed and they know it. -
The Play Offs, The JPT or beating 'them'?
revolution saint replied to Noodles34's topic in The Saints
1. The play offs 2. JPT winners 3. Beating Pompey I've seen us beat Pompey a few times but I've never seen us promoted or win a trophy. -
You've given up on getting promoted? Serious question. I think it'll be tough but could still happen although maybe unlikely.
-
You were doing OK until you suggested Gillett was quick, incisive and attacking. I'd describe him as ineffective, prone to fouling and prone to giving the ball away but that's opinion for you. FWIW today was the first time Waigo convinced me he's got what it takes - he showed class, skill and pace. I'd start him. Antonio has been given a few starts now and personally I think Waigo deserves the same chance that he's got. Before today I thought Waigo was probably best on the bench but he's obviously been working hard and has earned a starting place - that could be right mid or up front but either way the lad has done enough to show us what he can do with a few starts.

One Wayne Bridge ...theres only one Wayne Bridge
revolution saint replied to Yorkshire Saint's topic in General Sports
Who cares? Really, honestly, who actually cares about this? Those people who say this is another reason why they don't share the same passion for England as they do their club - it's a question of personal morality? Or some have said it's because they're overpaid? Surely you realise that even at div 1 level footballers are not saints (excuse the pun) and still overpaid. This is just a domestic issue and concerns only those directly involved. It's not remotely interesting and has no relevance. If this is the type of thing that floats your boat then it's probably best to stick to the pages of "Hello" and "Chat" rather than the back pages. -

Really? Are players personal lives that interesting to you? I just watch the football but maybe I'm missing out...... -
One Wayne Bridge ...theres only one Wayne Bridge
revolution saint replied to Yorkshire Saint's topic in General Sports
Man has an affair with a colleague's girlfriend who he may not have been with at the time anyway. Big deal. Who really cares about players' personal lives? Or any "celebrity" for that matter? Unless of course you actually know them then it doesn't really make any difference does it? I've no doubt there will be a massive campaign to strip Terry of the England captaincy but that would be based on non-football reasons and a bit sad really. I'm sure everyone will disagree with me on this..... -
Jason Puncheon to Saints according to SSN
revolution saint replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
it won't be a million quid - that came from the fountain of all knowledge 606. If Plymouth had a player worth a million would they loan him out? Probably not. I'd be amazed if the fee is even half that.
