Sekou Mara - Official: Signs for Strasbourg

Don't know anything about the lad but if it's alongside another new striker then seems like it could be a decent bit of business. His stats are very similar to Sesko, who seems to be quite highly rated. Pretty similar goal return per minutes played plus he's in a harder league than the Austrian one and for a team that doesn't piss all over the opposition. -
I would build a new house in an Art Deco cinema style and get the build filmed for Grand Designs. It would be the most boring episode ever. Kevin Bloody McCloud would whine and lament every potential problem and I would spew money at it like a 16 year old vomits after 5 pints of cider and black. Take that you miserable, pretentious prick!

Sometimes you just have to applaud a post so direct and to the point.

Ah, ok. To be honest I hadn’t heard of him till tonight. He seems alright but big gamble for that price

Here’s a fantasy type poser, Cornet or Karlsson? Cornet probably slightly more expensive and definitely more in wages but offers more in versatility and can definitely score goals in the premier league. Karlsson cheaper and more of a risk but being very right footed means he would fit into that left number 10 role better than Cornet. Personally I’d edge towards Cornet but I think the club would see Karlsson as fitting into the system better.

Agree that it’s not something we’ll be interested in but the whole attitude thing narks me off. No one has a clue what these players are like in real life. Wouldn’t really be bothered about the alleged attitude upsetting the squad dynamics either, it’s not a dynamic that works most of the time and is one of the things that needs to be fixed.

Ralph Rangnik compared him to Kevin de Bruyne less than a year ago. His problems have been injury related and that’s knocked him back a bit
-
Bloke at work is a Palace fan and he reckons they might go 3 at the back next season.
-
Tend to agree. He doesn’t appear to have that strikers instinct. Neither does Che but at least compensates in other areas and does chip in with a few goals. Adam Armstrong doesn’t really contribute much at all. Shame as I thought Armstrong might do well this season as well but I doubt it now.

Cornet Baumgartner Kalajdzic Issa Kaboure Colwill Cornet mainly out wide but can play up front and wingback so good versatility and pace there. Baumgartner is another wide option and mainly plays on the left. Got a good goal scoring record too. Kalajdzic again has a good goal return and his height gives us more options. Kaboure looks a decent option at right back, pace and good defensively too. Colwill looks quality and would give us a bit of composure at the back and good range of passing. Would have had either Broja or Delap but think both ships have sailed.

No, I did some YouTube scouting last night and wasn’t overly impressed.
-
I don't think so because I believe, and I could be wrong on this, that you can't actually be relegated before the season starts.
-
And wingback, and up front. Proper upgrade on Redmond and Djenepo, gives us some versatility and can definitely score goals. What's not to like?

I'll agree that there's a correlation between where you finish and the amount you spend generally, however, your original point was concerning record transfers and that's not the same thing. Brighton and Palace have both done really well recently and haven't chosen to spend massively on individual players but instead have improved the squad. For example, it's better to spend 20 million each on two players than 40 million on one player. That's the point I was making - that there's better value in looking at younger, cheaper players with potential than to look at more experienced and more expensive players (which in most cases the player doesn't want to join anyway because they have better options).
-
Which kind of makes the point that spending more doesn't make as much difference as people think it does. In fact I think the correlation between spending more and the value you get from that player widens the more you spend. Not always, of course, but I'm guessing at least some of these clubs regret spending so much on: Villa - Buendia 33M B'mouth - Lerma 25M Palace - Benteke 27M Everton - Siggurdson 45M Fulham - Anguissa 27M Leeds - Rodrigo 27M West Ham - Haller 45M Wolves - Silva 35.6M I'll admit that's a bit off topic but worth pointing out.
-
Not sure why you're fixated on 25M - it's not the reported size of the bid for Broja. Fact is you're making out that only Saints have a problem with spending that much on a player but it's simply not the case - we're one of eight clubs that have never spent that much (30M) on a single player. By all means complain and wish we were spending that sort of money but don't make out it's unique to us because clearly it isn't. Situation is far more nuanced than just spending the money anyway. Lets say we have 30M and are prepared to use it on the right player - what does that get you? It should get a little more than just potential, it should get both potential and a bit of experience. Not the finished article but certainly less risky than the academy prospects we've been looking at. All good so far. Player is going to be in that 24-26 age group more than likely, so approaching his peak and with a good resale value. All still great. Problem is that player is not going to be looking at us as a step up - they'll probably be trying to get clubs that offer european football and much closer to the champions league. They're not going to be sold on mid table consolidation. I actually agree with you that West Ham would be the better option for Broja at this stage of his career which means that this isn't just about money. Just a hunch but I wouldn't be surprised if we were happy to go to something like 25M, the problem is we're competing against clubs that can offer more than we can (in footballing terms).
-
Except that the bid is supposed to be 35M euros, so almost 30M Sterling. That beats the club record transfer fee for 40% of premier league clubs. Apart from that, spot on.
-
He played up front a fair bit and scored goals. Nothing to say he couldn’t make the switch permanently. Anyway someone asked for an example and I gave one. That’s all
-
Cornet probably represents better value for money but possibly lower resale value. Would imagine both would score a similar amount next season were we to sign either. Just an example mind, not saying we should, are or will sign him
-
That's a fucking amazing statement of the blindingly obvious.
-
The figure in euros flatters the size of the bid a bit but still represents a transfer record for about 40% of premier league clubs so it is serious money especially for the age and record of the player
-
That’s serious money. Not sure I would go that high and I like Broja. I guess that’s probably straight cash with no buy back or sell on, and also includes a fair amount in add ons but even so, it’s a big outlay for the lad. You’d imagine it blows us out the water. Almost relieved, I’d hate to lose out by the odd million but I don’t think it’s wise to match that bid, and there’s probably better value out there.
