Clyne is key to winning. I'd love to see Reed back for this one.

Post-Match Reaction: SAINTS 1-1 Ipswich Town

I Oops Toby Didn't play. Gardos -
Minsk I like this formation

Makes the goal even more impressive wouldn't you say Victor, good point though it was his left foot, but I think most would agree he is a right sided player and has not really taken on his man when played on the left. I watched him play a lot at Red Bull Salzburg. We are lucky to have him. He's still raw and under Koeman the sky is the limit for him. Great work ethic, fast and tricks. He just needs to learn a bit more Football intelligents.
-
The thing about Koeman Is that he is a great Father figure, very respected and hugely motivating. He treats the players with respect and nobody wants to let him down, both of the field and on. I would like to isolate Mane's improvement from this. You can't put square blocks in round holes. Mane was being played out of position and couldn't adapt. He is predominantly right footed and his weakness is his left foot. He is now being played in his best position as is Tadic. What I love most of all against Arsenal is that we had no Schneiderlin or Cork or for that matter Clyne. Actually worse options than when we played at the Emirates. This time people seemed less concerned, why? because our squad has grown with confidence. Not only the players confidence, but our confidence in our squad. Reed, Yoshida, JWP, Gardos have all come in and continued the good work without reducing the quality and intensity. Fact! we have a bigger squad now because we have more belief in our fringe players. The squad has grown with belief and not investment. The Southampton Way

The team picks itself. When you're on a good run the last thing we need is to take chances. We will pick our best team available and get the job done. I do think there is room for Targett and McCarthy. Reed and JWP must start. I'd go with Foster McCarthy, Fonte, Alderweireld, Targett JWP, Reed, Schneiderlin, Tadic Mane Pelle Underestimate Ipswich at your peril! If McCarthy had low expectations he wouldn't have driven down to watch the game yesterday. I think he smells the chance of a scalp

I thought it was Fonte that made the foul on the edge of the box. Lucky boy

Today another player came of age. His name is Harrison Reed.

To everyone on Saintsweb! Wishing you all a fantastic New Year Supporting the Saints.

There comes a game in every season where the result makes you punch the air for weeks, months, years. I was at the Emirates when we were cheated by injury and bad luck. There needs to be some balance in fortune. Balance in refereeing. Balance in luck. Mr Wenger it's about time the balance was righted. The only problem is that when a match means so much sometimes it ends in disappointment. So many times have Arsenal made me disappointed, frustrated, angry. This time we are gonna nail them. 3-1 Saints
-
The referee didn't give a penalty so it wasn't one. End of move on.
-
We'll know how good Elia is come 8 Jan. If he's on the bench then he will not have overly impressed in training. I hope he starts
-
Some decisions go for you others not. For example nobody has commented on the incorrect offside decision against Long, which would have left him only needing to beat the keeper. Both were errors and balance out over the course of a season. I do think the referee was favouring Chelsea most of the match, with exception to the penalty decision. Fabrigas could have easily been sent off.
-
Nobody has written about the incorrect offside that would have given Shane Long a one on one with 10 minutes to go. Ref was biased all day to Chelsea.
-
Sorry But this Formation is 4-2-3-1
-
The key to this game is hard work. Closing down and giving no space whatsoever. Luck will also required. The key to this game is a back 3 of Fonte, Alderweireld, Maya, protected by Wanyama and Schneiderlin. The rest of the team need to close them down.
-
I love the back 3 of Fonte, Toby & Maya. Wing backs of Targett and McCarthy (Clyne if fit) Holding midfield of Morgan and Wanyama Steve Davis as attacking midfielder Mane to have license to play behind Pelle
-
Forget Clyne he won't make this one in time. Great chance for another academy player perhaps or Alderweireld will play right back
-
The formation was actually 3-5-1-1. Mane played so well because Koeman gave him a more familiar role to play and he embraced it. Squares don't fit in round holes. Manes left foot is not Premier league quality.
-
This boy McCarthy looks quite a prospect. Watch out Clyne.
-
Hey that Mane fellow he's rubbish! Rough diamond yes, potential to be brilliant oh yes!!!
-
Brilliant formation Koeman really understands Football
-
Schneiderlin will be Captain. Reed should keep his place. Wanyama, Tadic, Mane on bench, along with Taggart and Gape Squad rotation Fresh for Chelsea who we will beat.

Today we played our game. In midweek Sheffield stopped us playing our game and credit should go to Clough. Forster was outstanding today and should have received more votes. Reed did his Job and was very energetic, he wasn't outstanding, he didn't boss the midfield, he did close down very well and made the game tight in midfield. He held his position with maturity. He was never MOM. I like him as a player, but he needs to show more for a pass. He needs to lose his marker and find space. I thought he was hiding a little. Very good debut.
