Funny because I was thinking Steven Davis should be considered Premier League player for January along with Koeman as manager of the month. I think this thread shows up another 2 posters who don't see football the same way that I do. Steve Davis - One of the best signings ever for Southampton.

I believe we could catch them if we had a full strength squad, including Jay-Rod. Fingers crossed that Senegal exit early and our injuries heal very quickly. Or else Lady Luck will need to shine brightly.

Who said anything about being better? They both bring different qualities to the team. Davis is a leader and motivator. He is also a very unsung, yet hugely important team player. There is a place for both in the team. Please notice though when Davis doesn't play how the ball movement slows.

After a full week of training Cork will start. Reed will start. Davis is critical to the way we play. JWP must play for his set pieces and hard work. Targett should start and give Bertrand a rest as he's carrying a few knocks. Long will be impact sub again. So here goes: Forster Clyne, Fonte, Gardos, Targett Davis, Cork JWP, Reed, Elia Pelle Tadic moans too much, slows the pace of our play and probably needs a rest on the bench

Great little player. He has terrific technique and good range of passes. He keeps the tempo of the game. Strong and a real terrier. Fantastic in a tackle. The negatives - No matter how good your heading technique is, if you're no tall you won't get the ball. Heading is an important part of midfield and he doesn't win many one on one headers. Morgan and Wanyama are terrific in the air. He's also not that fast over 50 metres, but he's quick over 5 metres

One other point I wanted to raise is our squad depth. It will be interesting in 3 years time to look back at this squad and realise just how good some of these youngsters really are. Untried at the moment, but when given the chance they step up and why? Well because they are good enough. We just don't recognise them at the moment. Reed will be playing for England in 3 years time and Targett is already a very reliable player.

Sorry I didn't have time to correct or explain myself. Now I can. My worry is how fit Cork is. Can he and Davis control midfield. I like a middle 3 of Davis, Cork and Reed, but Davis doesn't play on the left as well. I would like to see then a triangle with Davis playing at the top behind Pelle. JWP ON THE RIGHT WITH Clyne overlapping. That works. So my new line up is: Forster Clyne, Fonte, Gardos, Bertrand Cork, Reed JWP, Davis, Elia Pelle I would feel very frustrated if I was Long after performing so well in mid week. Difficult team selection and it does show how many options we have even with 6 players out.

Pretty sure Targett will be tired after Wednesday. Bertrand will start. Tadic will be on the bench. Elia will start. Reed deserves a start. I think there's room for both Cork and Reed. Forster Clyne, Fonte, Gardos, Bertrand Davis, Cork, Reed Long, Elia Pelle No place for Reed.

I think the article is very complimentary. In a way I don't disagree with him. It wasn't a great spectacle for the neutral. We didn't play sparkling football. I do think that we could of played with a higher tempo. I also think we could have played better football than Manchester and I do think the luck went our way. The article is fair and needs to be read fully before making knee jerk criticism. Make no mistake we can play better attacking, flowing football ask Sunderland. Let's also not kid ourselves Mata could and should have buried us in the last 15 minutes.

McCarthy played full 90 mins last night. He's also captain of U21's. Maybe a place on the bench, but U21 play on Thursday in the cup.

I think the big teams should be allowed to get away with it and it should be a penalty if the smaller teams do it. That's fair isn't it. Well that seems to be the rule implemented by Premier League referees at the moment.

I think he compliments how we play. Very hard working. Held his position well. Wanted to do the defensive duties. Two footed, pacy and some good tricks. I like him. Gonna be a big hit. Think we've found a gem of a player.
