Maybe an unpopular opinion but I wouldn't be too worried if he went for decent ££. Yes, some decent free kicks and he plays every game, but is he a leader? How many goals and assists does he really provide? In the words of Adrian Durham: is he all that? Romeu is a better DM, Armstrong a better AM. Great if he stays a Saint. If he went for £40m and we spend £10m on someone like Delaney, I don't think we're weaker.

Good point! I took the assumption that we chose not to sign him. Hadn't considered he might have not wanted to come. 😀

Do we know we baulked at the fee? It is strange that we were linked so heavily to him across a few transfer windows, at a decent fee, but never signed him. I assumed there was something else, not ££ related that, stopped us.
