But is that their true opinion or are they highly influenced what they've been spoon-fed by the paranoid right-wing media, The Mail for instance? People are scared of what they don't know, and most Brits aren't particularly familiar with the ins and outs of the Muslim faith.

France nearly elected Jean-Marie Le Pen a decade ago, and his daughter is currently a close second in the polls as the new leader of Le Front National. Thankfully, Britain isn't quite that right-wing yet, so I highly doubt we'll see anything similar to the burka/niqab ban that's been passed across the channel. The woman in the OP was obviously in a tricky situation, does she go against her religious/cultural beliefs and remove her burka or go against Australian law and disobey the instructions of a police officer? There's all kinds of different obligations in a situation like that..

No, but I should imagine a large proportion of 'dangerous drivers' on the roads are of pensionable age.
-
What would people say if I put forward the idea that when you reach the age of 60 you should re-take your driving test every 3 years? The same would apply for newly qualified drivers (at whatever age) to re-take their test within 3 years of passing. There was a fatal and horrific accident which happened in my hometown a month ago which was caused by an elderly male driver (the other driver having to swerve to avoid being hit by him). The elderly driver was in his mid-80s and had a car full of potted plants - the other driver was only in his early-20s. The elderly bloke escaped without a scratch but the same can't be said for the other driver, whose car rolled and caught fire. Is re-taking your test every 3 years when you reach a certain age a necessary precaution or patronising to the elderly? There are plenty of excellent drivers over that age, but equally there are some very dangerous drivers too.

Great news Hammy - hope you're doing okay.

+1 He's had a good season on loan by all standards, so there'll be plenty of teams after him and prepared to part with a bit of cash to get him. Plymouth will be kicking themselves if we sell him for £1m - we got him for peanuts from them.

It's possible but not probable.

Wahey, £9.50 profit. DRINKS ARE ON ME LADS!

F*cking brilliant. Quick question though - is anyone's Saints Player not working properly? Not getting any sound from the main mic of the studio summariser, just the people that he's going to for reports. Can't believe we're actually in 2nd!

I still don't believe it, there must be something else. I know it sounds stupid given the quotes etc, but it's just unfeasible to me that a criminal investigation would be stopped from going any further just because the people involved were ethnic minorities. The police have never had a problem with going after ethnic minorities before, so why should they halt an investigation? My guess would be a lack of substantial incriminating evidence - it's all very well knowing that something is going on if you can't prove it.
-
Change it to a white collar and you've got a deal.
-
I still highly doubt that the ethnicity of the people involved stopped the investigation from progressing - it just doesn't make sense. If they stopped investigating because of community cohesion, that's f*cking stupid. I should imagine the people in the community would prefer to get rid of groomers, regardless of race, religion etc.

For those who care about club finances etc - annual accounts published
SuperMikey replied to stevegrant's topic in The Saints
I think waiting for next year's accounts would be a wiser option to try and gauge our financial state. We were in a whole world of financial sh!t right up until the takeover, so there were probably long-term effects of our state 'pre-Liebherr' going on throughout last season. There's still a bit of paranoia about our finances circulating methinks. -
If we all put in a quid, would you get genetically screened? Would love to see how you report that you're 2% Chinese, 6% Scandinavian etc. Truth is, there's no such thing as 'Indigenous British'. Us Brits are a mish-mash of all different peoples and cultures. Yes, there were the Celts, but they were spread across the whole of Europe from the Shetlands to Turkey, so they're hardly what we would define as 'British'.

Finished my tape, so if somebody doesn't show up on time then i'll happily fill in Steve.

Fiorentina owners consider buying into Norwich & SOUTHAMPTON

Yeah, we're alright actually. Thanks for the call though Flav. -
Well, that's the key there isn't it? The papers need something to panic over - so they'll highlight certain instances of crimes amongst certain groups in society to give the illusion of an epidemic. Obviously i'm not trying to defend this, as abuse of a minor is a terrible thing, but i'm just pointing out that this rise in crimes of this type is probably not as bad as the press are letting on.

Ah fair enough.

I thought he could play for us as he was a scholar at Plymouth and not a senior professional?
