Obviously it is very, very early days and the team needs to bed in before sweeping judgements can be made but some initial observations: 1) Downes looked awful yesterday. Hopefully it was rustiness/being played out of position and he improves 2) Holgate. Nothing to say but appears an utterly dreadful footballer. Everton fans appear to have been right. Just hope it was rustiness/getting used to the team 3) Manning. Not sure if it is the system or him but can't seem to defend particularly well 4) Ryan Fraser. Hailed as the new messiah based on a subs appearance but completely anonymous yesterday (but then so were all Saints players) 5) Russell Martin. No Plan B and strange selections, players out of position, etc. We got away with it in early games but not yesterday. Easy to see how we could become very easy to play against Add to that, the serial failures such as Mara and Stuart Armstrong (why? Why not have given Ballard or Doyle an opportunity instead of loaning Ballard out or at least play Mara as a striker?) On paper, we should have the strongest squad in the division but some early worrying signs. Hopefully over the next month or so everything gels.

To be honest, who really cares? Despite the continuous virtue signaling saying how womens football is more exciting, how it's so popular, etc. - it really isn't and is a sub par product compared to mens football. Same can be true of most sports simply because of the genetic differences. And before I get shouted down, then why are so many womens sports up in arms about transgender individuals being allowed to play womens sports (and destroying the true female field)? I wish that mens and womens sports simply were not compared to each other - they are so different. It's fantastic that womens sport has more coverage now and encourages participation but it cannot be compared. The number of teams in this World Cup is ridiculous and dilutes any real competition.

That Athletic article, as ever, is well written and does not mention any "fire sale" but simply states those likely to stay and those who are likely to leave with possible transfer targets added to the mix.

Listening to Selles the club have been hugely disrespectful to him. If what he says is true and that no-one at the club has told him about Martin then this reflects really badly on the club. But then I think we all know the club has gone downhill big time since SR took over and the connection between fans and the club is now tenuous at best. Deeply unprofessional the way they have treated Selles (he is not the right man to take us forward but has tried his best when no-one wanted to touch us with a ten foot barge pole). Our club is in a really dire position and SR have proven to be an utter disaster to this point.

So who will be next to say how hard they worked and fought to keep Saints in the top flight and 'we' will fight to make Saints get a rapid return. All rather banal, nauseous and 'PR slick' and don;t think for a moment many of these players who make the 'we' statements will be here next season - who the hell do these players think they are kidding with their PR spiel? You could count on one hand those players that have fought for Saints this season (JWP, Bednarek, Lyanco, Lavia, Perraud spring to mind). FWIW, I reckon the next meaningless statement will come from either KWP or Walcott.
