Liverpool EFL Cup Semi First Leg Buildup
the saint in winchester replied to St Chalet's topic in The Saints
I was pessimistic until I just talked with a Liverpool fan in the office. He thinks Saints will win tonight (although they to win up there). Says Shane Long ALWAYS scores against them and expects us to play him again and he will score again. Concedes they are vulnerable to pace and says if we go for them with pace, they will crumble again. 5pm pessimistic, 5.10pm hopeful! -

I've got a discarded 1991 VW Golf in my garage, but I want 10 grand for it. Anyone? £20M for Sakho now? They're havin a larff. -

Is this Oumar Niasse at Everton any good? Koeman dropped him like a bad smell, said he can go tomorrow, today even. Hull rumoured to be interested. Surely we would be more attractive to him? Come in on loan or pay-as-you-play deal. -

Accepting we played Wed-Sat-Mon, but West Brom played x-Sat-Mon as well and won their games. We have a sizeable squad and Puel rotates all the time.

Virgil Transfer Rumours - Summer 17

Don't want him to go, but if the auction between Citeh and Chelsea takes the bids north of £50-60M and if the player is being offered crazy wages, I think we have to be pragmatic and accept it's best for all/most parties to let him go now. But yes, we have to be prepared to spend a lot of that on a comparable CB -
Very true. Puel and the players should watch that over and over, analysing the role of the defenders, midfield and attack, the commitment, the pace, the wanting to get on the end of it. Then look at each other and ask "why the f*** can't we play like that?"
-
Yep, agree. The last game I thought that was away to Bournemouth. How did that one work out? I expect nothing from this game. Probably what we'll get on current form, but exciting that it's only a 2 horse race!

Bournemouth 1-3 Saints - Reaction

Great win yesterday and pleased for Jay. However, we still need at least one more striker to cover for Charlie. Two would be better, but at least one. -
So let's see who the odd man out at Arsenal is, and ask to have him on loan. That could be any of Welbeck, Iwobi, Giroud, Perez ..... doubt it will be Sanchez somehow. Someone needs to throw a strop soon and be told to find himself another club! We will be there in the car park waiting ...
-
Agree. Part time job alongside broadcasting deal. If he can get the strikers firing again, its money well spent.
-
For once, I would actually prefer the short term option. Bring in a proven striker in this league, even paying a fair bit for him. Leave SamG on loan as he will be better for it for us next season.
-
Mmmm, like this idea. Jose is currently on a downer over him.Could we somehow get him in?
-
The Austrian? Funny you recommending an Austrian.
-
Crouch and Defoe it is then. Sunderland had the players all along.
-
No lynch mob from me. He is someone I mentioned 18 months ago as someone we should go for.
-
I hope Reed and Puel get together tomorrow and sort this out once and for all. If it's lack of funds, then action Les Reed. If it's just don't know who to buy, then action on Puel. Get a flamin strategy and stop making do.

Agree with Vectis. Neither a winger nor a striker. Beats a player, then turns back to try and beat him again, rather than push on to the penalty area.

Saints 1 Hapoel Be'er Sheva 1 - Match & Meltdown Thread

Stayed off here deliberately for a few hours to calm down as I might have vented my spleen. Complete and utter disgrace. As others I skim read on the way down comment, we don;t seem to have a game plan. In the words of Alan Sugar on the other side: "so what's your bleedin' strategy? Just hope it works out?" I honestly don't know if we were playing for a nil nil, or hoping to nick it at the end. Absolutely hopeless. Only VVD seems capable. We need to clone him and play him in goal, defense, midfield and attack. Repetitious balls out wide to Bertrand and Cedric, they cross it aimlessly to our front three - 5'4", 5'6" and 5'7" - do we seriously think they are going to get headers in? Park football. If this was a card game, I'd throw my hand in, miss a turn and start again. And how much more of this tippy tappy tikka takka possession football can we take? I don;t care we have 70% possession if we only make 2 attempts on goal all game. Fonte will want out, another dozen should be shipped out. Honestly we could be relegated yet this season. Something has to change - the players or tactics. That was like warm beer tonight. Worst I have seen in my 50 years, seriously. -
And Wenger hasn't put much on the bench, aside from Ox. We can see this out.
-
Not a great performance, but a win's a win. We still look short on confidence and inspiration, still too much holding on to the ball by passing backwards. Today our opponent was worse than us, and that IS your problem, Koeman! Good debut from Sims, another water carrier to add to the squad. But we need to add a couple of artisans to the squad in January, one in midfield and one up front. Strong side on Wednesday please, and hope Wenger plays the youth team (he won't) but we need to try to win it. Can't kill off the game on Wednesday, Arsenal are a class above Everton. But happy to win today. Now do it again.
-
Win vs Everton and Beersheba. Arsenal are in a league above. Palace a league below, if we cant beat them we are in trouble. We are on a par with Everton and we need to qualify for european knockouts. Everton and Beersheba.
-
Final line aside, I fear Puckett is spot on. I can see us racking up 70% possession stat but losing the ball a few times and being punished without mercy. We are low on confidence and belief. Yes, 0-3.

That's roughly £4.5M PA. Staggering offer for a club with our revenues.
