Cedric was fantastic first half. Second half abysmal. Good to see him marking the empty space at the back post

Come on defenders, stay on your feet and be calmer. That's both goals from diving in too much

Hmm looks a penalty to me....

Normally I would think this but their bench looks terrible which will majorly hinder any come back or even fight. It must be one of the worst benches I've seen from a top half club in a while. So it really needs to be one of the players on the pitch is gonna step up and terrorise us, but they look pretty gassed out.

Very healthy position. Nothing fears me on that Wolves bench either so no reason we can't kick on and win this comfortably. Traore looks like he has bought into his own hype and wants to do it all himself- which suits us as whilst he's a nuisance he's not a world beater. Also the Wolves players seem to have no idea what he's about to do and look disjointed. Good performers all over the pitch for us after a little sluggish start. Cedric putting over his ever cross and looking genuinely a good footballer. Armstrong tenacious and driving forward. Defenders pretty comfortable apart from a couple of little moments which you would expect. Definitely looking up for us!

A stunning cross from Cedric and a wonderful finish from Long. What is happening?

Edit: Didn't realise Manual had posted same link!

Only disappointing thing is to see Redmond start again. He hasn't really hit any sort of form all season. Whilst many in the side have had poor runs at some stage this season (JWP, Hoj, Stephens etc) they've managed to pull themselves out of it. Most of those managed to play their way into form but maybe Redmond just need some time out. Would like to see djenepo given a run of games Sent from my CPH1835 using Tapatalk

I am one who will absolutely hold hands up on this one. I thought even as recently as the Norwich game that Stephens was a decent footballer- but not cut out for the Premier League. Felt he was still making too many errors leading to goals and that would never change. But **** me, there were times today he was cleaning up the defense and bringing the ball out that reminded me of VVD. I still find that bonkers, but fair play, he is proving many people like myself wrong and I couldn't be happier to be wrong.

Huge shout out to JWP and Hojberg for the last couple of weeks. They have run about the length of the country for the side with 4 games in less than 2 weeks without a single minute's rest. Whilst some of other players have played every game, as a midfield duo they need to cover so much extra ground, make so many tackles, interceptions, and a whole range of passes. That takes tremendous fitness, passion and effort. I could feel the effort from JWP legs has he launched that ball up to Long near the end there. I am sure both of them will lose form again at some point, but no one should question their dedication to the side to get their fitness and strengths to this level. JWP in particular has been a man possessed, playing a 'Kante' role in our side and doing it well, even if that concept does still mind boggling!

You know it is a clear cut penalty when even the opposition fans admit it...Oh well the boys have bounced back from the disappointment better than I have. https://www.spurscommunity.co.uk/index.php?threads/southampton-vs-spurs-match-thread.141059/page-39 -

I generally have a reasonable amount of respect for refs and the job that they do. I am a former ref as well so am a little bit more empathetic. That respect and empathy does not extend to Mike Dean who I am appalled is still allowed to ref at this level. This is not just about Saints, every game I have seen him ref he gives the vast majority of decisions to the big clubs. -

Can't remember which game it was, but there was one in the last week or so almost exactly like that where the penalty was given. What a joke -

Aurier is just so ****. Not even trying to put pressure on Redmond there. -

Really good half. Lost a little bit of control towards the end but that is understandable given who we are playing! Once again everyone is putting in a shift, unlike earlier in the season. There is just about enough talent in this side to keep us up as long as they keep working hard like they have done here and the last 4-5 games. It can't be understated what a difference Armstrong had made. We just look like we have such a more solid foundation with him in the side. I'd also love to see how many miles JWP has run across the last week, the boy is a machine. Slightly strange that is he is turning into a Kante, but it actually kinda works. Even weirder to see him winning so many headers. Spurs still have so much quality in their forward few players so won't be disheartened if they find a way through in this game. I wouldn't mind trying to get down on the outside a few more times as Spurs fullbacks look vulnerable. When we cut in it is easier to defend against as their centrebacks + Sissoko all defend well. -

Wouldn't mind seeing Valery come in for this one if he has recovered from sickness. Spurs have generally been playing Vertonghan at left back since Mourinho came in and he doesnt really get forward like most fullbacks do. That could open up alot of space for Valery to fly forward into, who I trust to do a better job of that than Cedric. Would also only play 1 of Redmond, Djenepo or Boufal. The spurs defense struggles with quick passes and movement (see chelsea and Noriwch templates), but between Vertonghan, Alderweirald and Sanchez can time tackles and jockey players. All 3 of our attacking flair players like to hold onto the ball and run at defenders, but not sure if this is the right game for that sort of play. We need quick incisive passes and movement to leave them on their ass. I think Armstrong is absolutely key in this game. Something like McCarthy Valery Stephens Bed Bertrand JWP Hoj Armstrong Long Ings Djenepo If Long isn't fit then play adams. Love the idea of Djenepo on Aurier. Aurier is utter turd. -
Exactly this. I can't find any figures for the margin of error. Best I can see is some people saying it is 13cm but no official sources backing it up. Let's say hypothetically it is 13cm. Well those people saying that by including a margin of error it will just move the offside line 13cm forward are wrong. Let's say a player scores but the flag went up. It goes to VAR which shows him to be 2cm onside. In that case it would stay with the onfield decision. Likewise if the flag didn't go up and VAR shows 2cm offside, the goal stands. As long as assistants are given benefit of the doubt to the attacker, like they are currently, I think it could work. Yeah there would still be a bit of contention. Even in cricket you get a ball tracker and you go 'hmmm that looked like it was missing the stumps, yet ball tracker shows it hitting'. But you get over it pretty quickly.
-
You misread me, slightly intentionally I think to get across your rather unnecessarily aggressive point. I am asking what the margin of error is the technology and it should be built it to the system. I do not believe it is 100% accurate. To be 100% accurate it needs to stop and the exact frame the ball leaves the attackers foot. Can they do that to the atomic level when there is no part of the ball touching their foot? And then the camera needs to be absolutely parallel to the offside line at that exact moment it leaves their foot, which would be a challenge given the defense is constantly in motion at high speeds. At the very least they should release the figures on how accurate the technology is. If they are going to adjudicate it to the millimeter, with no margin of error, then the technology needs to 100% perfect every time. If not, then they need to also tell us as it could be costing goals.
-
This is true. At the moment everyone is getting ****ed equally. And it has removed a number of howlers.
-
There was heated debate when it was introduced in cricket, however it has worked out great after some initial problems. But of course it is unsurprising that the football authorities are arrogant and believe they know best rather than learning from other sports. To pretend that these offside checks are 100% accurate is the most absurd thing. I highly doubt they can atomically nail the precise frame that the ball leaves the attackers foot, and that the camera in line with the defense is absolutely perpendicular. All it needs is a margin of error introduced. The Premier League have not said what the margin of error is, but I have seen some estimates that it is 13cm. That is roughly half a boot which seems reasonable and would be clear daylight. Any offsides in that range should stay with the onfield decision. Otherwise it has managed to remove most of the howlers. That Gazzaniga penalty against Chelsea for example was absurdly not given. I think it is worth keeping VAR for those decisions. I do think what it has also shown is that the onfield calls do have a very high success rate, especially the assistant refs. The assistant referees are giving these marginal offsides in favour of the attacking side, which is what fans have always wanted. I know that is their guidelines this season, but I think they have been consistently doing this for years and have not really been credited with it.
-
I don't think it helps our attack having both Boufal and Redmond in the same side. Both not very good at defending. But more importantly, both have no idea when to release the ball. There is room for one of those style players in our team as they could open up the opposition. But I dont think room for both, especially when we have 2 strikers who need to be fed. The issue is Djenepo on the bench is the same as Redmond and Boufal and will hog the ball.
-
I would fine Hoj every time he goes for a worldie from way out. Often ignores better options, and frankly it is not going in.
-
Finding the Palace behaviour really odd. Acting as though they are so hard done by. True, the goal disallowed was harsh but that is just part of the wider VAR debate on offsides and nothing unique to this game. The Milivojevic booking was just as obvious as a booking as you will ever see, I can't believe they have the cheek to argue it! If anything, they should be happy the ref decided not to also punish for his reaction, especially as he is the captain and should know better. On our side, I think we are playing pretty well against a tough, stodgy opposition. Boufal looks like he may either win us this game or lose it for us. JWP has been good in the midfield, especially at winning the ball back which is a very recent addition to his game. In particular he has won 4-5 competitive headers which I never thought I would see. It looks like most of our chances are gonna come from crosses, so we need to work on improving our crossing in the second half. Might be worth bringing on Armstrong soon for either Boufal or Redmond as I trust him to swing in a better cross than either of those two.
-
JWP has just been superb. Must have got 5 or 6 tackles in this half alone. Barely given the ball away either. Helps having Armstrong in the side as a genuine link between midfield and attack Sent from my CPH1835 using Tapatalk

Frustrating the different rules for time wasting. I was at the spurs game against Chelsea on Sunday with a friend. Chelsea were wasting time from about the 20 minute mark. Shockingly so at times. Worst offender was Kepa who moved at tectonic speed to take goalkicks. Nothing. Bertrand booked however. Time wasting rules need to be tightened up for consistency. Sent from my CPH1835 using Tapatalk
