So would you like to tell him what actually is a man? Is it 18 because thats the legal age, or is it after playing so many games or mid 20's? Wotton qualifies all these but I dread a team full of Wotton's. If we truly have a 5 year plan then we will want to keep playing some of the 'kids' and let them get better. It hasn't harmed Bale, Walcott, Surman etc development by being thrown in as teenagers.

Since when has height been a factor to being a footballer? Yeah i'm sure Spain are really suffering from their lack of height. With no stats to back me up just imo about 75% of the greatest midfielders and attackers of all time would be under 5ft 10 What would be the point of having a tall midfielder that wins the ball in the air, but heads it straight back to the opposition?

Went and saw the Special last night over here in Sydney, now i've seen alot of bands but it surely ranked as one of the greatest concerts i've been to.

Wow what a rude tw*t. Yet I will respond with at least some form of courtesy. Firstly a players prime is surely dependent on the individual. Nadal for instance, due to dodgy knees, is probably currently or just entering his prime. Some players across all sports peak at different times so to say Federer should be currently in his prime is inaccurate. Federer has being the undisputedly the best for 5 years, which is an aweful long time in sport, remember where saints were 5 years ago. So are you saying the length of time a player spends in his prime is what determines a great player? Because, and i may get this wrong because it was before my lifetime, that would exclude Best and maybe even maradonna from great players.
-
All the players I mentioned were no longer the greatest players in the world towards the end of their careers. Sure Federer, who in all honesty is past is prime, is no longer the greatest in the world but he was for a number of years and his record backs this statement up. Now please explain how I misinterpreted you.
-
Therefore I vote that Pele, Maradonna and Le Tissier be stripped from the record books as great players because they are no longer capable of playing at the highest level

Have watched many, many A-league matches since it started and I believe that the standard from teams like Melbourne and to an extent Adelaide are probably lower end championship whilst a club like Wellington is probably upper league 2. In the case of the jets (I now live about 5 mins from the stadium) they are a solid team and whilst I would love Marian to play for them he probably won't fit in with their style of play. The A-League in general has no room for actually talented players and imo is the most physical league in the world. This will not be suitable for a small, injury prone player like Pahars. I very much doubt Saints can compete in wages if the Jets are signing him as their marquee player. So overall a fairly mixed standard of football, averaging league 1 standard, however Adelaide's and now Newcastle's success in the Asian Champions League shows that the standard is slowly improving, especially as the Jets finished bottom last season and have still done well.

My opinion from someone that did not grow up in Southampton, or England either. This notion of Southampton 'waking' up really depends whether the city wishes to be able to compete on a regional, national or global scale. As a tourist, my verdict on the nightlife, music scene can only be gathered over a couple of weeks so my opinion could well be incorrect however that is part of being a tourist. I last came over 2 years ago, the first time where I have been the legal age and able to see the city with clear eyes. Considering I have always formed a picture in my mind of a beautiful city that was reflected by the football team, I was very disappointed. Yes it is the most attractive place to visit on the South Coast, possibly with the exception of Bournemouth. But that I feel is where the influence lies, within the region. On a national scale, and I'm talking purely as a tourist, for the music scene, nightlife and general culture, there are very little pull factors for Southampton. In particular, I found WestQuay to be plastic and boring, nothing in comparision to say the shopping centres we have in Sydney. I found there was nothing really unique, just a chain of generic shops. Certainly at the moment Southampton is not doing much on a global scale to the extent that many of my friends, albeit ignorant typical aussies, have no idea where Southampton is and those that do its because of the football team rather then the city. It does pain me to write down the honest truth but I just feel Southampton has to do more to attract the tourists such as myself, that if my friends go on a tour of the UK that Southampton is on their visit list which currently it is not. Portsmouth, at the moment, could also have more pull factor over the international tourist then Southampton

No not fair at all, some people genuinely struggle with languages no matter how much effort they put in to learn the language. Think everything else is clever but that is just a cheap shot.

Was excellent until that final line which was perhaps a tad harsh.

Saints V Blackpool,1st half and half time chat
sydney_saint replied to saint lard's topic in The Saints
I suppose the point I'm making is that we are not neccessarily down if we don't win, if we gain by 2 points over our rivals over the next 2 games i'll be content with that, whether that comes from their slipping up, us drawing a couple, points deductions etc -

A point wouldn't be too bad as long as we make ground on our rivals, that aspect is a must. -
It is interesting to hear all these people that believe that climate change is not occuring despite strong scientific proof (just one piece is that excellent graph from I belive An Inconvenient Truth, for those that havn't seen it I recommend it as it is the only movie I've ever been scared of). Those that say global warming is a natural progression of the planet would be absolutely correct however, this process does not generally fluctuate as high as it is currently from, i suppose equilibrium, and generally takes millions of years, not one hundred as that is currently occuring.
