But us signing badly in Martin’s summer is, according to you, nothing to do with him. Bizarre.

Yeah I’m willing to give Cov fans a good amount of leeway. They’ve always been a decent bunch anyway but with SISA they got completely fucked over. Downes has got better this season but CM is the one position I feel a little comfortable about Charles, Bragg and Jander doing a job in there. I prefer Downes in there but the others are good enough. Play each game as it comes and play the strongest team you can IMO.

He’s doing a very good job so far. Done well to turn around a squad who weren’t playing for the previous disaster of a manager. This sounds entitled but, given the summer spend and our squad quality, I expected Saints to be top 6 and pushing top 2 very closely. Today’s form takes us towards that. The business end of the league is coming and, under Eckert, we haven’t yet beat a side in the top six (played 5 lost 3 drawn 2). Hull took us apart twice in worrying fashion, albeit once was when Ginger was a dead man walking. I feel we’ve got a lot better since even the home game but we have yet to prove it against the best sides in the division. That will likely define for me how good Tonda Eckert is this season. Certainly better than what we had but that is no benchmark at all. Overall a par so far given who we have played.

I was witness to exactly this with a chap from work. He had booked an oil delivery for late last week and they didn’t show up, then when they rescheduled the price had gone up by almost double. He was on the phone with them for a while and I think the last I heard he had haggled them down to 80p a litre. Absolute racket though, profiteering scumbags.

Can say I’m a big fan of 6 teams but meh. The 4 team playoff format imo is great. I get the notion that all teams should go up on merit, but the chase for top 6 keeps the season alive for many teams. Plus every team knows the rules at the beginning of the season, if you’re not good enough for top two automatics then you go into the lottery.

No idea if that’s true but I do remember the first game back, think it was Norwich 3-0? Had friends over the house and watched the game in the garden with a Heath Robinson TV setup, we absolutely steamrollered them and could’ve won by more.

I’d argue they backed themselves rather than Ralph. He was a dead man walking by that point, that summer they had insisted he appoint a deputy of their own choosing. The same deputy who got appointed manager after the Jones disaster. Its speculation on my part but I reckon Ralph had little involvement in the signings made that summer, they mostly came from above with him rubber stamping them at best.
