And then what? Will Spurs pick up things if LFC walk away? Is Lovren's head (or any other body part) already at any other club? He'll look a bit of a tit if LFC don't buy him.
-
I imagine that Saints hierarchy aren't too enamoured with Liverpool's nor with Mr Lovren, so I can't imagine that they will be overly helpful, and if anything would prefer to sell to another club.
-
KCome, there is something that you seem to be overlooking. SFC can sell a player to X Utd, but if the player doesn't want to go there, then he doesn't have to go there. And, if SFC try and sell that player before his contract has expired, there is also no compunction to move, and the player can hang around at SFC and see out the rest of his contract while picking up his wages.

What is most disappointing in this is Liverpool's stance. Clubs really should stick together and not encourage this behaviour from players. The players have a union in the form of the PFA, but clubs are all trying to get one over each other. It doesn't really do anyone any good this sort of behaviour, and really, as I say, clubs should stick together and if/when a player does this sort of shït, then all deals are off. But, putting my naivety to one side, it's money we are ultimately talking about.

Excellent, and given the way things have been going, an easy opportunity to make yourself a bit of a hero. Never known someone who has been more wanted by the fans. Yes slightly desperate, but not accepting any old player for the sake of it. And hopefully a real boost for Koeman as well, what with the board going and getting his main target (and I hope I am not speaking too soon here).

I do sometimes think that we forget that he is a young man, and young men are prone to make mistakes. I am always amazed at how grown up they do look when on the pitch, but it boils down to him being 24 (now just 25). I like to think that I had a decent education, but I do realise that at the age of 24 I was naive and prone to making injudicious decisions. Why should footballers be any different? They may take the advice of others, but in whose interest are those others working? You just have to look at the stick Le Saux got because he read a broad sheet to realise that there are many who are deficient educationally. Listen to them being interviewed and this is reinforced. And to top it off, pay them thousands and thousands a week, and you can add a detachment from reality into the mix, and a failure in knowing how to behave properly. Money, money, money. The indecent pursuit of it has never and will never make anyone a better person.

The problem with all this, is that the modern day footballer (and no doubt their better half as well) are not blessed with the most intelligence in the world. I know that's a generalisation but in this case, it seems to be the case, and as such, Mr & Mrs Lovren seem to think that they have done nothing wrong. They can postulate as much as they want, but they are still wrong. Maybe if he showed some humility and apologised, he might get where he wants rather quicker, but he would be too stupid to realise that because he is a footballer being paid an unrealistic wage already.

Agree. But having said that, the others (however many their are) might be too thick to understand.

Right, we have Kelvin Boruc Gazza Cropper and are looking at another. That's too many. Cropper and Gazza are 21/22 respectively and seem to be occupying the same sort of position in the club, so I would have thought that one of them should be let go. As Cropper has just signed a contract, I would be surprised if it was him. Having said that Gazza is contracted until 2016 and cost a staggering £2.5m or something along those lines. Kelvin hopefully can move upstairs so to speak.

I'd rather have Danny Ings or take both.

Un mot sur votre avenir : serez-vous toujours un joueur des Saints à la reprise ? A word about your future: will you still be a Saints player at the start (of the season)? I do hate on line translations when they balls it up so badly
-
He's never going to play again for us, so it's very simple with, to me, 3 options.... 1) Keep hold of him and hold him to his contract, but that is cutting your nose off to spite your face. If the owner feels that a £20m stance is worth taking, then that is her choice. Personally, while we would be entitled to, it would make us look as bad as him, and £20m is £20m 2) Sell to Liverpool and make it hard and hold out for the max and for as long as possible. Me, I would sell him to them on August 17th at the earliest. 3) Do a quick sale to someone else (and not Spurs) even if it means not getting the max.

After his excellent display at Arsenal, Boruc is being moved up to partner Gallagher.

Second article by Simon Carter in a week that I thought was pretty spot on.

No idea what this means!! Age is a wonderful thing sometimes. But I do expect us to sign Ings, The "I don't take any notice of the speculation but just concentrate on my football" means to me at least, that there is a bid in.

I guess it's just wishful thinking. Doing anything to L'pool won't be good for Brand Premier League so nothing will happen. One might hope that a journalist with any integrity (I am not sure if that is an oxymoron or not) might do an article on Saints this closed season. But then, if they did that, they would probably have too much to lose. Oh well. Onwards and upwards.
-
Is any recourse possible, likely, desired?
-
Did he claim lack of ambition from Saints and refuse to play or turn up for training?
-
So Liverpool are seemingly complicit. Before saying that they should know how to "behave", are you sure that they have OK'ed this?
-
They will earn more at those clubs (regardless of CL) than we would ever offer even if we did manage CL footie. Having said that, weren't Gaston and Osvaldo on £65k a week or something like that?

I think it was the day after MP was announced @ Spuds
-
Really? Let's look at things.... First off was MP. If stories are to be believed, the board did try and keep him and did offer him a huge pay rise. If Lovren's latest outburst is the truth, then MP had decided before April. His whoring of himself at the PSG vs Chelsea game would indicate that he felt that he was too big for us and nothing would keep him here. Then we have Lambert who is off. I suspect that although Koeman had not been appointed, he would have been consulted. There are a lot of people around me where I sit who think that he is far too slow for a striker. OK he does a lot more than be a striker, but stowing any sentiment about how talismanic he has been, the future is not in Lambert. Maybe another year, at a push two. So from that point of view, I would agree to a certain extent. Others may argue that he was a current England squad member, but to me, he was there to come on as a late sub in extra time to take a penalty. The we have Shaw. If Lovren thinks we were wrong to sell Shaw for £30m+ then he really is very stupid and clearly doesn't understand how the industry he works in operates. Tell me how many clubs in the world would not accept an offer of +/- £30m for an 18yo left back? He may well have huge potential, but £30m is £30m. Up next is our esteemed captain. I wonder what Lovren suggests the board should have done when a player intimates that he will refuse to play again in order to keep him at the club? Maybe we can take that course of action with Lovren, or more likely, we will get an over inflated price for a disloyal player who trots out disingenuous banalities that he is either so stupid to actually believe or so stupid that he thinks we will believe.
-
I first went to watch Saints in the 70s. Lovren probably didn't know anything about us until a year ago. And that, to me, is it really.

I'm going to do a Ralph here.......Those that are left, with the addition of good purchases and under the excellent guidance of the Koeman brothers, might well gel into a much tighter knit group than before. You show people adverse situations like this, and they can often bond incredibly well and work their socks off for each other. But then again, it could all fall apart at the seams!
