No reason to be disappointed.....this from Martin Samuel is quite a decent piece from a few months back http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2609004/MARTIN-SAMUEL-Why-Southampton-sign-stars-like-Christian-Benteke-Robin-van-Persie-John-Terry-instead-sell-sell-sell.html

Maybe it is a question of them making a great team without superstars. I like Bruce and think he is a good manager and will do well next season.

What is the main aim of teams in the PL? It's not to win it, it's to qualify for the CL. Now surely that has to tell you that there is something wrong with it.
-
Brenda saying that an announcement of sorts is close.....So as far as I see it, in order of likelihood. a) we are arguing about money and won't have our pants pulled down and things, while maybe close, aren't finalised b) we have asked them to delay the announcement as part of the deal c) there is a problem with the medical d) AL has had a change of heart and wants to stay a Saint. Any other reason?

CL doesn't benefit the FA at all, does it? So what if there are 2, 3 or 4 teams in the competition from an FA perspective?
-
Would love the FA to grow a pair, as it is they who decide how the CL places are filled, and attach one to the winners of the FA Cup. Hell, why not go the whole way and give another to the winners of the League Cup as well, meaning Winners and runners up from PL take the other 2 spots. Of course they won't, instead they seem happy to the PL's bïtch and do everything that helps the PL, who certainly have no interest in anyone else.

Yet you are clever enough to know exactly what Liverpool have done, what Lallana has done and what our board has done??
-
I think he twittered something.

Was Charlie Austin injured when QPR signed him? I know it was a big risk and that they got him at a relatively cheap price...

we were quite weak at times in the final quarter and lacked the killing off of opponents. I wouldn't go quite as far as you and say it was dull but it was frustrating. Games like Newcastle at home should have been the norm but they weren't. Having said that, I did find the back end of the season a little pointless with nothing to play for. Personally I was rather hoping that the players would push on and try and finish one or two places higher, but this just didn't happen (eg Cardiff at home). Maybe the players thought that we had reached as high as possible and could go no further. If that was the case, it would be better to have players who believed in more. However, someone said these deals were done in March, so not a surprise that there were some lackluster results.

Amongst all this pessimism, I am looking forward to RK starting and find this an exciting new era.
-
The next time a player uses change of manager/chairman as an excuse, I'll scream. Changing club means a new manager (except if going to Spuds), the same as if staying with RK. Those wanting to leave haven't even spoken to the new manager so how do they know the new plan? But no point wasting time on this spurious reason as we all know what its really about. Never heard before of players deciding their futures because of the Chairman. He might have authorized their signing, but in the scheme of "them and us", he firmly is in the "them" camp
-
Why start a thread about whether you have confidence in him? Its really got nothing to do with you/us. The only person who needs confidence in him is the owner.
-
Problem is with that, is that sometimes when you pay one person a lot more, it leads to resentment and can be counter productive.
-
Yup, all started when we got rid of Danny Fox.

The powers that be seem more than happy that the rules will prevent anyone else really joining the cabal. Oh there may be some flirtations by clubs, but it's all a fairly closed shop. It sells the product and makes them money and screw everyone else We are all aware of that, or at least we should be aware of it. I do feel that if we had kept things together and strengthened, we could have made another push onwards and upwards. As I keep saying, I really am near given up with football. I love Saints, but hate football. Maybe it's sour grapes at not being able to come to the top table. I see it more dwon to it being a closed shop and wondering what the point is if you aren't going to ebreak that. Sometimes I wish I was 20 years younger as then I would know no different and accept the Premier League for what it is. Alas, I am not, and I am well aware of pre_PL days. People like to say that we now have the best players in the world and the most exciting league. Well, I never remembered going to the Dell and feeling any less excited.
-
I'm not.
-
Oh panic, panic. Why not do what Man U supporters do? New manager, new coaches, lots of new players and they are talking about winning the league. You, you're just being a wet fart.
-
and are they Southampton of the North West (actually I consider them North-Midlands - Carlisle is North West).
-
This diversion from the plan that NC and MP had, and it being a reason why players want to leave......how many of them have talked with the new manager? LS and AL seem to have wanted to go with indecent haste as soon as the final whistle went on 11th May (probably before but I'll give them credit for staying true to Saints until the end).
-
And what (current) connection with Liverpool does he have!!?
-
At £15m you can keep him
-
we'll see at the beginning of the season. you may be right, you may be wrong. would be foolish, given the money sloshing about and the stage for the next batch of academy players to be sold, to get relegated.
-
and? Would still have renewed regardless. Next season, well who knows? But tell me, is the club worth more to KL as a well funded functioning business or a stripped out shell?
-
That's just a bullshït excuse players bring out for moving on.
