How about a ship in a bottle?
-
In dinghies outboard is outside the gunwhales or transom. I think you serve 'on' a submarine, which of course is always a boat, never a ship. Here's another one: How big must a boat be to become a ship?
-
A bank will never need to ring you for information, only to try to sell you something else.
-
Interesting that you serve 'on' and not 'in'? I suppose it dates back to the sailing days?

What is the difference between standing up and sitting down? It's the same view, innit? Except for the kiddies who can't see because of it.

I kind of agree with that. It's a strange sentiment but having won it so convincingly I'm not sure that I would want us to be defending it next season. -
A red card would have been harsh in my opinion. If the ref doesn't see the handball himself he is unlikely to go for the red. I thought he did ok. Always in control and nothing to complain about. Did he book any of our players? I can't remember any.

Not easy. The only output from the Skyplus box is analogue video. You could save it to a video cassette and take to a transcriber. Parkers photographic at Woolston should do it.

It doesn't matter how far it stretches, it all belongs to the state, even the stuff under your house.

Let's get this straight... What you see on television bears no relation to the experience of being there. As far as the sound goes there are a couple of microphones for crowd effects and these are mixed with the commentators. If they someone next to a commentator makes a noise then all those watching will hear it. I have watched the recording and I didn't hear any boos, just indifference. You cannot infer from what the tv presents you that the whole crowd is dooing, or singing, or whatever, and you certainly can't draw conclusions from what you think you hear on the tele. From the reports of those of us who were fortunate enough to be at the game there appears to have been very little booing anywhere at any time and what little there was cannot be directly attributed to Cortese appearing on the scoreboards.

Are you sure that wasn't me? -
I didn't hear any booing at the game and I watched the recording last night. The shot of Markus raised a cheer, the shot of Nicola didnt. I wouldn't call that booing, just muted. It all depends on the location of the crowd microphones. Don't assume that what you see and hear on the television bears any relationsip to what is happening at the game.

July is probably the best month. It starts to get busy after the 14th and August is out because of all the french everwhere. We once went to Argeles in mid June and it was only 15 degrees, which was unusual but not what we went for.
-
I seem to remember that it cost £125 to buy the old stadium just to pull it down. Then there were all sorts of discussions over access rights and the land immediately around.
-
So 70,000 tickets at £30 or so is over £2million.

It's noticeable how the light improves once you get south of the Massif. Everythign becomes more luminous and intense. All the buildings have terracotta roof tiles and much shallower slopes.

We've been towing the caravan down to the French/Spanish border every year in early July for nearly 20years. We go Portsmouth to Ouistreham (use to be Le Havre) on the early morning boat and stop the first night at about 7:30 just south of Saumur on the Loire at a lovely place called Montreul-Beuilly (4 hours or so). Next day down past Limoges and toulouse to Carcassonne - fantastic place (6 hours). Then a short run to either Argeles-sur-Mer (3 or 4 hours), or over the border toi the Costa Brava. It's just under 700 mile in total and used to be 17 hours total driving with the caravan bu these days it's more like 13 or 14. On the way back we come up the middle through the Auvergne via Beziers - Millau, Clermont-Ferrand, Montlucon etc stopping two or three nights on the way. Loches is another interesting walled town remiscent of Carcassone. Some motorways are toll but the newer ones funded by the EC are free, notably the A75. Try www.viamichelin.com for routing, speed cameras and road tolls. France is a lot more expensive than it used to be and eating out in spain is about two-thirds the price. A day trip from Collioure is very easy, it's only about an hour to Roses, L'Escala or Estartit. For really cheap booze of any sort there's a place just south of Pals at Palafrugell http://www.vinsilicorsgrau.es/ 3 magnums of Rioja for about £4. The weather is not really settled until June/July and the area around Perpignan is the windiest place in France although Collioure is sheltered by the Albéres mountains and is usually a bit warmer than further up the coast. Let us know what you decide Baj and I will try to dig out some recommendations for you for hotels/restaurants.

Great turnout and I'm sure we could have sold twice as many. Does anybody know how the gate receipts and TV money are distributed? With our cup runs this season I would have thought that there must have been a reasonable return on the investment.

It'll do I suppose. Shame about the clean sheet but I think we had eased off the pedal by then. Nice to see Connolly and Perry get a few moments on the pitch, it shows that Pardew understands sentiment and psychology. -
We were up in the gods behind the commentators and I could see the handball from there, and the lino put his flag across his chest immediately. The referee blew very quickly but I'm not sure if he saw it himself. It ought to have been a red card, really, but in the end it didn't matter.

No booing in 526, except when the Mexican wave hit the Carlisle end.

Brilliant advice! We caught the 11:12 after leaving home at 09:30 and we got back at 17:42. £3.50 to park At the station. The only problem I had was when she refused to accept my senior railcard. It turned out I was showing her my bus pass! -
You might avoid NI but you can't avoid tax. HMRC are very hot on this sort of thing these days.
-
Working time regulations (1998).. 28 days minimum paid leave, which can include public holidays.

It all depends on the contract of employment, I'm fairly sure.
