Any real benefit in shutting the chapel?
Whitey Grandad replied to ooohTerryHurlock's topic in The Saints
The most unsafe that I have ever felt was behind the away section at Portman Road. One almighty crush to get to the toilets and the pie counter with only one narrow entrance/exit and grills over all the windows. I strongls advise anybone not to go there if they are ever at Portman Road. Compared to that, St. Mary's is a doddle. -
My basic concern is that it makes everybody a suspect who then has to prove their innicence. If you are not guilty of any crime then no information should be stored anywhere. Keeping data about innocent people on record is accusing them of committing a future crime that have have not yet committed and is open to all sorts of misuses.

I think it probably would be. I received this in an email from David Luker, I hope he won't mind being quoted: Should we progress to the 4th round and face a home tie of note, then it is likely that all areas would be open as you would expect.

Any real benefit in shutting the chapel?
Whitey Grandad replied to ooohTerryHurlock's topic in The Saints
Certainly not, but my experience was of the central Kingsland in block 31 where I only recognised one other person from the regular crowd, presumably because this was one of the last blocks to be opened, so I was wondering what conditons were like in other parts of the ground. In my experience it was noticeably more disorganised than usual. -

I was blocked by quite a few who got to the top of the stairs and stood there open-mouthed, staring around in wonder. It also took a lot longer to empty the Kingsland on Saturday and if was no more full than usual. What was your experience on Saturday? -
It all depends on what is meant by 'bigger club'. Capacity of stadium? Average crowd size? Turnover? .... debt?

Any real benefit in shutting the chapel?
Whitey Grandad replied to ooohTerryHurlock's topic in The Saints
The ground is designed for that number and has previously been used for that number for a couple of seasons, but that was with people who had regularly attended the ground, who had sat in the same places and who were familiar with the exit routes. Of course, the stadium has been used successfully for other events with crowds who were also unfamiliar with the stadium, but I'm sure that we could all agree that it would be safer if the supporters were more spread out. The original question concerned how much had been saved by closing the Chapel end. There is also the question of how much was lost through the long queues at the catering outlets. In my opinion, initially closing so many blocks and then releasing them gradually encouraged supporters to wait until the last moment before buying tickets causing long queues at the Ticket Office on match day. The failure of the ticketing systems on Thursday also meant that matchday sales were at the discounted price leading to further loss of income. -

There were thousands of people, including a lot of youngsters, who were in an unfamiliar location and who were not acquainted with the facilities. I'm sure that a lot of people will have learnt lessons from the arrangements for this match and I trust that there will be improvements in the furture. -
Saints were after him at one stage. From 23rd December 1994: 'Luton, however, have flatly refused a £1m bid for their young striker, John Hartson, from Southampton, who may switch their attention to Bristol Rovers' Marcus Stewart.'

They owe it to people or institutions that bought 'gilts'. These are basically bonds (IOUs) issued by a government for a fixed term at a stated rate of interest, paying a fixed income twice yearly for a fixed number of years. They can be traded above or below their face value depending on the current interest rate.

We've got to win the fourth round first (£90,000) before we get a pop at the fifth.

Now, who would you rather believe?

No we don't. Not after December 31st.

What happened to David Prutton? Is he still at Leeds?

Thanks for taking the trouble to do that, it's much better than the ITV stuff.

There was a suggestion that there was a slight deflection. I hope so, for his sake.

That is significant, I wonder what how the banks fell about that. How are they going to give Coventry their 45% of the proceeds? In a couple of brown envelopes?

He looked fresh and lively, and quick at times. I thought perhaps he was trying a bit too hard with the little flicks and lay-offs. Sometimes when the ball is pumped up to him he needs to make it stick so the attack has time to build.
