  1. We've had plenty of equivalents at Saints, to be fair. It's just indicative of the ridiculous overpayments in the hyped-up rubbish that they call the best league in the world.
  2. Wouldn't he be playing towards our own goal if we did that? Another right-back with Harding's commitment would come in very useful. There must be hundreds out there, all of them a better option than James.
  3. Promotion is a very long shot, even if we make the playoffs. The JPT might be a nice day out at Wembley but is not really a priority. There's no better way of getting match-fit than playing matches, especially one where the players can perhaps 'relax' a little mentally. Always play your best team.
  4. I agree totally. It drives me up the wall when he won't get forward another 10 yards before trying to cross the ball. Crosses from deep favour the goalkeeper and defenders every time. As a right-back he is a liability. His positional play is woeful and he can't run very fast. He has an awkward running gait with his arms stretched straight out and downwards which means that he shuffles over the ground. He ball-watches a lot when we are going forwards and any opposition left-winger who picks up on it just skins him. He wasn't marking his post on Saturday when Exeter scored and I lost count of the number of times that he tried to cross when he had Antonio in front of him in space. We need a proper right-back in January or we will not make any further progress.
  5. The small capacity may have been part of the downfall. You can't survive in the Premiership for long with a capacity of 20k.
  6. I think you'll find it will be us and three other rivals.
  7. I agree. We did what was necessary, and no more. There was a nervous spell after Exeter scored when we didn't get a look-in which I think is clouding some people's recollections of the game.
  8. I totally agree with the sentiments, but I'm not surprised by the current situation. The potential was always there once the internecine struggles were replaced by a benevolent 'dictatorship'. It's just unfortunate that we had to sink to the depths of administration before we could start our revival. Old ingrained perceptions are hard to shake off though. I still talk to people who think of us as 'struggling Soutampton' and are genuinely surprised when I tell them how we are winnning so many games. I can't quite believe it myself, to be honest.
  9. If that's the story of what happened then I would not expect Mills to get another chance very soon. This is a serious business and there's no room for sentiment, something that the ardent fan often forgets.
  10. Nah, he'd just keep going round in little circles.
  11. The last 9 or 10 years have seen no rise, rather a 0.7 degree drop.
  12. It's an easy thing to miss but the top part of the page is Christmas Eve. If you scroll down even further to the Boxing Day (26th December) sevices then you'll find route 4 is not among them! http://www.bluestarbus.co.uk/pdfs/boxing%20day%20times%202009.pdf
  13. So long as they change their shirts to red & white stripes and call themselves Saints reserves then I don't see a problem.
  14. And how many of those 12,944,000 green people 'agree' ?
  15. Merry Christmas and season's best wishes to you all. Thanks for running the Web, we all appreciate it really.
  16. ball-park figure ticks all the boxes :smt078
  17. I was thinking more about how long it takes to grow a big tree. Mind you, with all this extra CO2 in the atmosphere it would be quicker than before.
  18. Eventually the forest would be restored but not for many generations and far too late for us.
  19. Exports from Cardiff ended in 1964. That's one of the reasons why the Cardiff Bay Development Corporation was established, inside the defunct Coal Exchange building, to redevelop the Bay and provide employment. Welsh anthracite was used especially for steam trains and at the height of the running of steam locomotives on the railways 40% of the coal moved by railways used for powering the trains themselves, the rest was for heating. Until oil relaced it coal was the prime energy source for British industry.
  20. Absolutely. It took me over 40 minutes to get in this morning instead of 25. Driving at 25mph behind women in 4x4 pickups and the roads weren't even icy . Grrh.
  21. We were only mining coal for the generation industry. Nobody else was buying it. Well, almost nobody now that there are no steam choo-choos.
  22. What the locals don't understand is that the forest itself is more valuable commercially than the land that they 'create'.
  23. The Amazonian rainforest canopy has increased by about 10% due to the increased level of CO2. This increase cannot been measured by satellite measurements of ground area.
  24. I was in the Black Forest last February, snow everywhere. They all change to snow tyres for the winter and they have two sets of wheels. Snow tyres are fantastic. I was in Canada once and my friend came flying into the car park, screeched to a halt, got out and went arse over tip on the sheet ice. He had snow tyres.
