  1. Perhaps we'd better not score then. Problem solved
  2. Especially if they’d already won it by then.
  3. Being offside is not of itself an offence. They are Laws, not rules, and Sigurdson didn’t make a move to play the ball, quite the opposite. He was well out of the sight line of the goalkeeper who didn’t have a chance of saving the ball. He saw it clearly all the way. This line of argument has been around for years and there have been countless examples of players lying right in front of the goalkeeper and not being considered to have interfered with an opponent. As I said, United were very fortunate to get away with that one.
  4. Professor is a job description and not a qualification anyway.
  5. Actually, 100% incorrect. “Interfering with play” means “Playing or touching the ball passed or touched by a team-mate” Sigurdson didn’t touch the ball.
  6. Solidarity, innit. #memasktoo
  7. Hmmm... Exceptionally generous to United, I would have said. “Interfering with an opponent” means: preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball. For example, by clearly obstructing the goalkeeper’s line of vision or movement making a gesture or movement which, in the opinion of the referee, deceives or distracts an opponent • the opponent must be reasonably close to the play so that the blocking, deceiving or distracting makes a difference
  8. Isn’t he the one who signed a black and white ball for a fan by writing on the black bits?
  9. It’s a lot easier to lose (not win) points that it is to win them.
  10. The early stages of the Europa do not generate a lot of money but it would be good for everybody’s morale in my opinion.
  11. There are parts of the country where such terminology is common and posh people such as you and I/me would be uncommon.
  12. Fewer/less is not as definitive as some like to make out. In broader terms English usage is defined by how it is used. Edit: I see what you did there
  13. "the ball would have hit the stumps" is not a fact, merely and estimation.
  14. Well said Professor. I agree with you all the way.
  15. Indeed, there are all sorts of opinions. I would just like to point out that we lost that final 3-2 so to argue that we would have won it with VAR is stretching things a bit. Also we should remember that for every VAR decision that went in our favour there could have been some that went against. Let's not forget also that our European campaign was a dismal flop.
  16. We are perennial candidates with occasional lucid spells. Let’s enjoy this one while it lasts.
  17. 8th is a total irrelevance. We ended level on points with Bournemouth. You might like to look up the final points total to see how bad we were. The football was direr than dire.
  18. Not this season anyway.
  19. Yes, but not by much an yes, partly. Fog is due to moisture in the air as much as anything.
  20. I came back from Boston about 40 years ago in less than five hours. Then spent a further six hours in a hold over a Oxford, flying up to Prestwick to refuel and then flying down to Heathrow. Something about the fog. Will global warming mean less fogs?
  21. When I was a kid growing up at Dovercourt when there was a storm I used to love going and sitting behind the wall on the promenade whilst the waves were breaking over the top of it.

I think one of the main arguments is that it frees up capacity on the existing lines. Why it doesn’t call at Heathrow is completely beyond me.

Not to like? Because it could very well be money down the drain. Wouldn’t it be better to improve other transport infrastructure more widely? South Hampshire is crying out for a tram system and what ever happened to our south coast motorway all the way to Dover? No, the Tories are only interested in buying votes up North. If Southerners are too stupid and keep voting for them regardless then no public money will ever come our way.
