  1. I look at it this way: suppose we clear about £18m from the deal. If he hadn't played for us before, should we be looking to pay that much for him or would we be better looking elsewhere?
  2. Canicula!
  3. Wouldn't an A be a one letter abbreviation and therefore a OLA?
  4. Sorry, didn't know we were limited to three. ( 'None of those is a' ? )
  5. You must have realised by now that I am of the old school and in my day Latin was almost the Lingua Franca (never quite worked that out?) of the scientific community and indeed I have an O-Level from 1965 gathering mildew in a draw somewhere. I knew you knew but my comments are partly aimed at the wider community. One day my sort will have died out and then you'll all be able to say what you like
  6. Yes, I believe so. I saw him looking at shirts in M&S at Hedge End just before last Christmas (or 2012) and gave him some of my discount vouchers for which he seemed very pleased.
  7. Oh, all right, but only if you pronounce it 'doff'. I can't see CFO ever being anything other than an abbreviation though. QED is an abbreviation of 'Quod Erat Demonstrandum' which is Latin for 'which is what was to be demonstrated' and should only be used properly at the conclusion of a mathematical proof, although a lot of people use it as 'therefore' these days. Anyway, back to the footy
  8. Yes, it should have been "We are Southampton, we're off"
  9. Yeah, that too. Perhaps I should have used laser or quango or scuba.
  10. Sure it's not a Roonerspism?
  11. Has he signed yet?
  12. Not really. An acronym should form a new word in its own right, like RADAR. These are abbreviations, maybe initialisms if the letters are pronounced individually.
  13. I'm with you on this one. I'm not too bothered about not being champions as long as we have a good go at everything we enter. As for the academy, I'm getting pretty fed up with seeing these kids given a handful of games to run around in whilst they make their mistakes and learn their trade and then get sold on before they've done us a few years of professional service. In my opinion the aim of the first team should be to develop a solid long-term team that we can support and to whom we can feel an attachment. I don't like watching youngsters who are Liverpool/Arsenal/Man Utd players in all but name. We are like tenant farmers who produce our own good-quality food only for the Lord of the Manor to come along and take his pick of it from us.
  14. Like you, I too renewed my tickets but I'm not surprised by the developments. In terms of value the club has not changed, in fact it's probably worth more at the moment.
  15. Players come and go all over the world. Sometimes you sell an asset in order to buy something more appropriate.
  16. He signed a contract and he is well paid. He should shut up and play up, whether the rumour is true or not.
  17. I knew something was up when the season tickets went on sale early.
  18. Quite so. Nobody would want to go anywhere near Liverpool unless they were being paid big bundles.
  19. Does the Englishness only matter if we're in European competitions?
  20. You were reading it in a German accent.
  21. If he can do the jobs of two players at the same time then we're laughing.
  22. I blame that C n u t (So proper names are swear words now?)
  23. You left out the Titanic.
  24. Re-arrange the letters, WHAS maybe.
