  1. Or vice-versa. You can't divorce a community from its immediate surroundings. It's ridiculous to say that London, for example, is a great place or a crap place. It's an enormous conglomeration of vastly different communities and can't be compared with somewhere like Chipping Sodbury..
  2. So what if it's water? Were talking about boats here. Cowes is only 11 nm from Southampton, that would fit comfortably. Into the North Circular. Some people see water and think that's where the world ends but actually it's where the rest of the world starts.
  3. You rely on Google too much, I would suggest.
  4. The runway is long enough but not wide enough, apparently.
  5. Royal Yacht Squadron? Cowes week? Round the Island Race?
  6. And all probably smaller in area than London?
  7. A lot of them stay in hotels the night before their cruise.
  8. I met somebody who used to have a box but drooped out when we reached the Premiership and the prices rocketed.
  9. No comparison.
  10. 85% of the yachts sold in Britain are sold through the sales offices in Hamble, or used to be. Is Hamble allowed?
  11. It all depends on what you want in a town. I never go shopping in Southampton but it has a very local airport, the only theatre south of the Thames that can stage full-scale productions and a major cruise industry that we use a couple of times a year. I think it's a bit stupid to include major cities, these are effectively several 'towns' clumped together. There's good and bad in all of them. Even Swindon has relaxed its parking restrictions.
  12. A referee can change his decision providing play has not restarted.
  13. I'm not impressed with it myself, and I was born there.
  14. So what's the alternative?
  15. What, looking at where you're going to pass the ball? It's the difference between good and bad players. The good ones have a picture in their head of the position of every player on the pitch.
  16. I didn't hear any boos, just some natural groans when a pass went astray. If this happened to Fox more than others then there's the reason. If you don't like the groans then don't perform in front of 30,000 people. You get groans at Wimbledon no matter who's playing, it's a natural response.
  17. I thought it was nothing? Didn't all that stop a long time ago?
  18. The important thing is to go there with real belief that we can achieve something, not just hope to keep the score down.
  19. In the right place to receive the ball? You're supposed to look before you pass it and not just hit it to where you want the receiver to be. To do this twice in quick succession betrays a lack of awareness. Unless he did it deliberately and yes, it does go on in professional football. Many a pass is underhit in order to make the other player look poor.
  20. I've asked players about this. They said they were too focused to notice.
  21. The players are usually too busy concentrating on the game to hear the crowd. If not then they should be.
  22. From The Times today: EXTREME SOUTH This far into a season - in October or later - this is Bournemouth's highest league position for 24 years, Southampton's highest for ten years, and Portsmouth's lowest ever. Enjoy!
