True, but the vote spread would have been different if people knew there would be PR. For example, I am more than happy to vote Green in the local council elections, because they have a much better chance of winning seats and actually having a voice in the council due to the way councils are made up. However, I wouldn't vote for them in a GE because FPTP guarantees that would be a completely wasted vote (although it's worth pointing out that, even if that weren't the case, I still wouldn't vote for them due to their ridiculous stance on nuclear energy). When it comes to election day, most people understand fully that FPTP benefits the two main parties most and a large majority will vote along those lines. But if we had any kind of PR, those voting patterns would not be the same.
