  1. Hold your horses - he's not guaranteed to become PM yet you know. With such a slender majority already, if enough MPs quit the party (as they have been threatening to do) before he gets the chance to visit her Maj and ask to form a government, then he won't be able to.
  2. Jonathan Frakes is doing some directing, I believe. Stands to reason he will at least make a cameo as Riker.
  3. I wondered if they would bring back some of the old characters for this series. Not surprised to see Data included, although I wondered how they would overcome (or provide an in-universe explanation for) the fact that Brent Spiner will have aged significantly since he last donned the makeup. Pleasantly surprised to see Jeri Ryan return as Seven of Nine though. Look forward to seeing her with (hopefully) a decent script and not having to engage constantly with the terminally irritating Janeway. Pretty excited about this now.
  4. https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/britain-eu-johnson-russian/ What's this? Boris has links to dodgy Russians trying to influence British politics? I'm shocked!
  5. He's like an Olympic sprinter compared to Moi.
  6. Used to see this all the time when I was working on the road. People speeding along in these sections of road, slowing down for the camera and then speeding up again. Clearly oblivious to the importance of the word 'average' on the signs. Idiots.
  7. The same David Hughes that played for us in the 90s?
  8. I can think of a few players over the years whose footballing ability was arguably poorer than Carillo's, but in terms of return on investment then yes, he must be right near at the top of that list.
  9. I don't know what's funnier - the fact that their standards have dropped so low they even wanted him in the first place, or the fact that even he isn't that desperate to take it.
  10. This doesn't really qualify as 'a lot' of off field problems when it was all one and the same incident.
  11. This is the key point, and modes of transport have nothing to do with it. The remaining police are stretched so thinly that there just aren't the resources to spare officers for community engagement etc... Lads these days will know full well the chances of getting stopped and searched are minimal compared to ten years ago, so they are more confident in carrying weapons around without getting caught. The HO report from a couple of years ago (of which Amber Rudd claimed ignorance while HS) said as much.
  12. Nice one, thanks.
  13. Yeah I saw this yesterday. Never would have guessed that the poison dwarf was a big fan of corrupt dictatorships
  14. Little Tommeh has long been a proponent of the "If you don't like the laws of our country you can always leave" trope, so it's positive to see he's following the advice himself at least.
  15. Fair enough. Yeah there's other league sides nearby, but I reckon taking her to a women's match first is a good idea, and if she likes it then I'll see about taking her to a proper game. I don't think she's actually got the attention span for it yet, so if she does get bored and want to go home at least it won't have cost me a huge amount.
  16. He'll be injured and won't play?
  17. Interesting that you should make this point, and then go on to make numerous further posts without once mentioning the football yourself. I thought England did the same thing in the 3rd place playoff as they did against USA - they started the game way too sloppily and left themselves too much to do when they eventually got a foothold in the game. That 'clearance' for Sweden's first was horrendous. If they had started off much better then I reckon they could have beaten the Americans. They were the better team in the second half but the damage had already been done. I enjoyed the WC overall myself, and very much enjoyed watching it with my daughter who has now been inspired to take up football herself. There were times in the second half of the semi against the USA where I completely forgot I was watching the women's team and found myself feeling the same excitement and tension I would experience when watching the men's WC. It's got a lot of people talking about it that I can honestly say I have never noticed at previous WCs, but perhaps having it all broadcast on the BBC played a massive role in that. Will be interesting to see what impact it has on crowd figures for next season anyway. My daughter has been badgering me for a while to take to a football game. I'm loathe to driver her on a 400-mile round trip to take her to SMS, and I won't take her to an away game for obvious reasons. The nearest club to where we live is Sheff Utd, but tickets for there will be pricier and harder to get now they have been promoted. So we've agreed I will take her to see the Blades' women's team when the season starts again. Prior to this recent WC, I wouldn't have been the slightest bit bothered about going, though I would do it for my daughter, but now I'm actually genuinely looking forward to it.
  18. I have a vague recollection of Jimmy Case scoring an absolute belter from distance once, but couldn't tell you who it was against. Would have been 89/90 season I think.
  19. Oh... my... f*cking.... https://twitter.com/Channel4News/status/1146728745425920000 Utterly batsh*t mental.
  20. Who thought he was rubbish? I know there were a few morons booing him because he didn't set the world alight in his first few games, but I wouldn't count that. On paper, he looked a decent signing, and so he turned out to be.
  21. We signed him on Monday as the 1st July is the start date of all professional football contracts in England, and we were obliged to sign him under the terms of the deal we did last summer with Liverpool. I don't think that will have any impact on whether or not we are planning to do what verlaine1979 suggested. Edit: We obviously signed him, not singed him!
  22. Thought England were the better team in the second half, as they had chances and pretty much shut the USA out completely. But they could easily have been more than one goal down by half time, so on balance it was a fair result. Shame about the disallowed goal, but it was the right call. Good to see VAR used to pick up the foul for the penalty as well, as there's no way the ref would have seen that in normal play but it was clearly a foul which prevented White from pulling the trigger. But the attempt from Houghton was woeful. One of the worst penalties you'll ever see. Anyway, this tournament has inspired my 5-year-old daughter to take up football, and we're taking her for her first taster session next week. The increased interest this WC will have generated could bring in bigger sponsorship deals to the women's game, meaning clubs will be able to start investing more into nurturing talent at a younger age. The knock-on effect of this being that the general standard of women's football will be much higher, and in a few years time we might have a 'golden generation' playing for England.
  23. In his defence, the whole squad under-performed during the respective tenures of Pellegrino and Hughes. He then suffered a long-term injury immediately after Ralph's arrival, and only managed to force his way back into the matchday squad with a handful of games remaining. He is has both talent and tenacity. If Ralph can harness those qualities and get the best out of him, as he has done with numerous other under-performers so far, there's no reason to think he can't become a key component of our midfield this season.
  24. Spurs have signed Jack Clarke from Leeds for an initial £10m... and then loaned him straight back to them for next season. Is it just me who thinks this practice should be banned?
  25. He ain't guaranteed to get it Villa either. Mate at work is a Villa fan and reckons Targett has been signed to 'compete' with Neil Taylor for the first choice LB position. I don't know much at all about Taylor. Is Targett an upgrade on him?
