Oh and one more thing... Why do people talk about 'intelligent design', when there is clearly nothing intelligent about it? If god created mankind as we know it today, as opposed to the idea of evolution, then why do we have appendices and why do men have nipples?

If god exists then why doesn't he reveal himself to us? An age old question for which many religious apologists will offer numerous baseless arguments. The Christians would say that he already did reveal himself to us in the form of Jesus. So let's just think about this for a second... We have an omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent being who created all things, and he chooses to prove his existence to mankind by taking the form of a man. Yeah, right. The Muslims would argue that god proved his existence in the revelation that he gave to the prophet Mohammed. Again, if we can just dissect this... It is the belief of most Muslims that the Koran is the literal and unalterable word of god, and that it loses all meaning when translated into any language other than Arabic. So why then did he present this revelation to an illiterate who had no means of writing it down, and exclude the large majority of the population of the planet from understanding it? And why do the Koran and the Hadiths bear more than a passing resemblance to all other religious texts which went before them? If god does exist then he's a bit of a git really, because more people throughout the ages have been killed in his name than for any other cause, and he just sits there in the shadows letting it happen. Doesn't sound like an all-loving creator to me. The whole concept of god was dreamed up by people who had zero understanding of how the universe works as a way of explaining the unexplained, and the idea of organised religion was seized upon by those in power as a means to control the populace and maintain the status quo. It has no place in a modern, scientifically enlightened world and I find it amazing that governments around the world still pander to these cults (which is essentially what all religions are).

Yeah I've already got a 'Teach yourself Spanish' package which I'm working through, but I can only do a certain amount per day or it just doesn't go in.

I'm getting a bit bored of listening to music when I'm in the gym or doing long distance journeys in the van, so I want to start listening to audiobooks instead. Where is a good place to download them from and what can you good people recommend?

But at least Button might have had a (admittedly slim) chance of defending the position. As it turned out, Rosberg just drove clean past him and didn't even need to 'put a move' on him in the braking zone. I'm all for introducing anything which will encourage drivers to overtake, but with the new tyre compounds and DRS this year we are seeing huge gulfs in pace between similarly competitive cars at different stages of the race. What fans want to see is drivers going wheel-to-wheel and fighting each other for position, not just gliding past them without any effort.

He may be very mainstream and an obvious choice, but I am surprised that nobody has mentioned John Williams yet. After all, he has been responsible for some of the most memorable movie theme tunes ever composed; notably Star Wars, Jaws, Close Encounters, Indiana Jones, ET and Jurassic Park.

Well today I think we saw the downside of the new developments, specifically the DRS. During Button's last stint when his tyres had faded and Rosberg was closing in on him, there was never a shred of doubt that Nico would get past him because all he had to do was activate his DRS in the right place and drive clean past while Button sat and watched, helpless. In previous years under that situation the faster car would be forced to take a risk to try and get past, and it would make for great racing to see if the slower car could defend his position, but what we saw today was just pathetic. Murray Walker used to say "Catching is one thing, but passing is quite another". Sadly this is no longer the case, and it is to the detriment of the sport on the whole IMO.

Yes. He got on the bus instead ;-)

 Incredible. If we can carry that form into next season we will have the league won by Christmas! -
I went for this one in the end... http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0032W414O/ref=oss_product From all the reviews available it seemed by far the best option for my budget.

I readily admit I am no psychologist, neither do I have any experience in the investigation of child disappearance / abduction cases. However, it has long been my suspicion that there is more to this case than meets the eye. There is just something about the body language of the two of them during their umpteen thousand public 'appeals for information' that doesn't sit right with me and makes me think that they know what actually happened to Maddy but have continued this public 'search' as a way of deflecting any suspicion. For the record, I am not making any unfounded accusations here, but it would not surprise me in the slightest to learn that they used some sedatives to get her to sleep (as has been suggested previously) which inadvertently killed her, and they cooked up the abduction story as a cover. I guess we will never know.

The Nigel Adkins end of season promotion - appreciation thread

Brilliant work Nigel. The bus rolls on and on. I still find it hard to believe that there were some on here who had written you off before you even had the chance to manage a single game. -

Saints V Walsall First half Chat. Party On!

******* lovely Mr Connolly! Wouldn't it be sweet if we went on and beat Walsall 17-0 just to rub Huddersfield's noses in it ;-) -
Constantine Bay near Padstow. Been there a few times and camped in a local farmer's field. Beautiful place - not touristy and stunning sunsets over the Atlantic.
-
Technically, we only need to draw the second half ;-)

It's pretty much an open secret that under the presidency of Pervez Musharraf, the ISI was funding and training the Taliban while at the same time Musharraf was claiming to be squarely behind the Americans in the war on terror. The guy was an absolute snake in the grass and it's only the fact that Pakistan has nuclear weapons that has prevented the US form targeting them before now IMO.

I'm sadly not going tomorrow but I'm really looking forward to following the match. In years gone by I would be bricking it about going away to a relegation-threatened side, but for the first time in my Saints-supporting life I am 100% confident that the lads will go out and do a professional job and do what is necessary to get the three points. Really looking forward to celebrating promotion tomorrow. I don't think my nerves can take going to the final day to determine if we go up automatically or have to face the potential nightmare of the playoffs.

Fecking superb Brighton! If it stays like this we only need one more point from our last two games.

Football clubs have to pay for policing at games out of their own funds. The House of Windsor PLC is already obscenely rich thanks to the amount of public money they have received over the years. Why could they not pay for the security themselves? It's pocket change to them.

I don't think the penguin population of Antarctica were too bothered about it.

Well, I've been feeling a little under the weather the last few days so I would have liked to have spent the day kicking back on the sofa and watching the snooker. But unfortunately my girlfriend has been completely suckered in by the hysteria surrounding this wedding and had the BBC coverage on the telly for over 7 hours, which kind of put a crimp in my relaxation plans. But you know what Sergei? You can keep your street parties and your bunting and your cheap, crap Wills & Kate memorabilia. I'm all for celebrating a good wedding, but usually I reserve it for marriages involving people I actually give a damn about, rather than some aristocrats who don't live in the same version of reality as the rest of us.

So your sarcastic comment was designed to warn against getting rid of the monarchy in case we went through a period of seventy years of murder, imprisonment and oppression; because that's what happened a century ago when the Russians overthrew their aristocracy. Like I said, why is that a good justification for keeping the monarchy?

Sorry, I didn't really have time to summarise the entire history of the USSR. What exactly was the comparison you were trying to make?
