It's been a lovely sunny day here in Sheffield. Still quite a lot of snow around from yesterday's dump though.

Asking what is my favourite christmas song is like asking what is my favourite sexually transmitted disease. If I absolutely had to choose one that I don't mind it would be The Pogues' Fairytal of New York. Can't bear the rest of them. It's not because I'm a grump who hates christmas, it's just that I am admittedlky a bit opf a music snob and they are invariably just cheesy crap.

I started watching this film but didn't stick with it because I felt no emotional connection with the lead character. Nicholas Cage is another one of those actors who has somehow managed to make a massive name (and fortune) for himself despite being extremely one-dimensional and actually a bit wooden.

Anyway, happy Yuletide (which starts today) to those who don't celebrate christmas.

Which is why he said after today

Let's look at it objectively.... We know Leeds are a very good side (easily the best in this division) and it was always going to be a very tough game. We know that our CB pairing is not as strong as we would like it to be so to only concede one goal against the league-leaders is, I think, very praiseworthy. A bit disappointed that we couldn't gtet at least one goal but it sounds like we gave them a real run for it and had them hanging on in injury time. To know that we gave them a real go and were only very narrowly beaten is heartening. Will be interesting to see how the Leeds fans saw it.

Indeed. Some scholars believe his birthday is in april, whereas others say september. Nearly all are agreed that it definitely wasn't december 25th. It's just that the christian church didn't like the idea of the world's favourite festival being a pagan one so they hijacked it for themselves.

That was his re-birth (and if you believe that then you are a poor, deluded idiot - but let's not turn this into a theological debate!)

Leeds Away Ticket Info - full allocation taken

Well that's annoying. I called at about 5:50 to be told that there will be no sales to visiting fans on the day and that the tickets had been taken off sale at SMS so there is now no way I can get a ticket. I had to wait until today when I got paid, I decided not to buy over the phone this morning in case the game got called off cos of the weather, and now I can't go unless I buy a ticket on the day in the Leeds end, which I'm not sure I want to do. Still, I seem to be a curse on the team anyway, the only game I have managed to watch all season is the Brighton game and look what happened there! -
I appreciate this may be the worng forum to be making such statements, but yes there are. Especially when you are the only Saints fan in a workplace full of Weds/Utd/Barnsley fans.
-
On the flip side of that though, I recently started a new job and I think it's fair to say that about 90% of the workforce here are white, male between 21 & 40 (yes that includes me) and mostly from Sheffield, Rotherham & Barnsley. Sitting in the canteen at lunchtime, the only conversation you will ever hear is football football football.. Now as much as I enjoy watching Saints, I'm not obsessed with football in general, rarely watch Pl or CL games, and don't really enjoy talking about it all the time. I wish there was something else I could talk about on my lunch break but if I try and start a conversation about anything other than football then I generally get met with blank faces.

I just called the ticket office to enquire about availability of tickets on the turnstile. The girl said they are currently not sure if the game is even going to go ahead due to the weather but they wuill know by 5pm today if there will be tickets available on the day provided the game doesn't get called off. Just a heads up for anybody planning on travelling on the off-chance of getting a tickety on the day. -
Me. I believe that perpetuating the santa claus myth only serves to create a sense of materialism in kids which is not something that the human race should be proud of. Me and some friends have decided that next year we are going to boycott 'Christmas' and instead celebrate the old Pagan winter solstice festival of Yule on the 21st december. It means we can eat and drink loads but won't be obliged to spend stupid amounts of money on other people buying pointless crap they won't ever use. Bah Humbug!
