I was just wondering how many players have played for both clubs in the past, and the first one that came to mind was Barry Horne. A quick Google search indicates that Paul Jones had a brief loan spell there as well, a few years after he left us.

It's interesting how different people perceive things differently though, because from my perspective the opposite is true and they've actually shown themselves to be further to the right than their election campaign / manifesto suggested. I acknowledge that financial markets etc... are not my area of expertise. But I work for an arms length government body and there's not a single change that I've seen since last year's GE that suggests the current government are any more left wing than the previous one. If anything they've gone the other way in my sector and are pandering even more to corporate lobbyists in their insatiable drive for growth, much to the dismay and disappointment of many of my colleagues.

Under Corbyn, yes. But Kier Starmer is not, and never has been a socialist, and nothing this government had done over the last 12 months fits squarely in the pigeonhole of socialism. In many aspects, quite the opposite in fact. So it would appear that your beef with them is based on assumptions about what the Labour party used to be, rather than what they actually are now. Which suggests you're not really in a strong position to be belittling other people's understanding of government and economics.

It's just the way that all transfer negotiations work. Or any kind of auction for that matter. You have an idea in your head what's the maximum you're prepared to pay before walking away, then you start much lower than that. There would be much louder alarm bells if the club were going in close to Cov's valuation with our very first bid.

Disagree on both counts. There would be plenty of expectation on him from their entitled fans, given the fee. And although they probably won't go down, I wouldn't bet against them being in the mix near the bottom. They've been flirting with it for a number of years and their squad really isn't all that good.

You say that, but some friends of mine went to live in Japan for a year with their 3yo kid, just for the experience before he started school. I appreciate Sheffield to Tokyo is a world away from Girona to Southampton, but I wouldn't rule it out completely.

Were there actually any serious bids for Grealish that summer though? I genuinely can't remember.

Nothing stopping him, but probably just waiting to see what options become available this summer. Much as he might love the club, football is a very short professional career and if he's as much of a prospect as so many in the game think he is then he's in line for a ridiculous payday that Saints simply can't match. And if he were to suffer a serious, career-threatening injury while biding his time with us this season, that opportunity may never arise again.

Yeah I guess so. But if he joins Everton he will automatically become their first choice RW (because they basically don't have one). Might be better for him to go somewhere he can be eased in / rotated out a little more to begin with.
