  1. Tickets for the post season cruise on HMS Sports Republic available now . Going (down) fast.
  2. Signs that Juric is slowly turning them around - at least in the 2nd half. Top marks to the support who made their way up yesterday. Grey, cold, post Xmas Sunday against an in form team in a season where we have won once. Well done all those who made the effort. 👍
  3. According to the link below this one is (no surprise) currently held by Derby. They were relegated on 29th March 2008 having played 32 games. They are joint 1st with Huddersfield who were relegated on 30 March 2019 also having played 32 games. BTW Portsmouth got relegated on 10 April 2010 after 33 games. Gulp..... https://www.90min.com/posts/6334744-the-8-earliest-relegations-in-premier-league-history
  4. Well that was worse than getting stuffed playing Russball. At least back then I had the comfort of knowing that Russ was not up to it and I expected a beating. What's really galling is the lack of heart. Have the players just given up? Juric has an even bigger task than I thought and I already thought it was massive.
  5. Looking at the numbers.... 4th to bottom are Wolves who are on track for 32 points. To get 32 points we'd need 26 points over 19 games. That's the form of a 52 point season which is currently between Spurs and Brighton. Not quite impossible but not far off. We are now in 'minor miracle' territory. TBH I'm just hoping we can rediscover our mojo and end with some degree of respectability, hopefully somewhere between 20-25 points. As for Saturday...if the players leave it all on the pitch then who knows, a draw or even nick all 3? I just want to see some real heart.
  6. Nothing personal but bottom half of the championship is his level. He'd do an OK job down there.
  7. That was night and day compared to Russball. Such a shame the new guy didn't have another 10 games, we could have pulled off an escape. SR - you are useless.
  8. Right now I want to see gritty determination to compete so If they give it their all I'll be happy regardless of the result. Who knows - they may even win.....
  9. Just play with determination and give it your best shot, that might be enough. Oh and no fannying around at the back, if it's in the 6 yard box put your damn laces through it - we are not Man City 😀
  10. Good to get a clean sheet and the defence already looks better not having to play tippy tappy football. Must be a big relief for them. Not going to keep us up but it's a start towards getting our mojo back ready for next season.
  11. Leicester are 4th to bottom and they look on track for 35 points. Therefore for Saints to get 30 from 22 games is the form of a 51 point season. If the new guy manages that then he'd have performed miracles. Personally if we could get 20-25 points I'd be happy. It would also prove that RM was always the problem. We'll find out in time.

    Ivan Juric

From what I've read it's a shame we couldn't have brought him in 10 games ago. If he can organise the defence, apply a press and give the team some spirit I'll be happy, relegation or not. First things first, let's get past that Derby record and see where we go from there.
  13. Relegation is all but mathematically assured now but we can still go down with at least a 2nd half of the season that shows some team coherence, spirit, pride and determination. The fans at least deserve that. I don't want bs philosophies, I want a pragmatic and flexible manager that believes in an organised defence, a midfield capable of quickly bringing the ball forward and attackers that are willing to take their chances. I want a team that looks much fitter than this one. Finally I want to see a team that looks like it will be competitive in the championship.
  14. Nothing personal but I didn't rate him last season and he really got shown up in this one. He should have been shown the door 10 games ago. I have no faith that SR will get the next one right but that doesn't change the fact that RMs time was way overdue. New guys target is to avoid the Derby record and get the team playing coherently and with their tails up, ready for the championship next season
  15. Whatever it costs to sack him it's loose change vs the loss of earnings from a prem place, even at the bottom. Therefore if they really are going to hold on to him I can only assume it's because they already think we are down so why waste more money. Keep him and see if he can get us back up in the remaining 2 seasons. After all he did it last time (just) so maybe worth another go? However that assumes the board actually have a strategy. Alternatively maybe they really do think he's the new football messiah and this season is but a mere blip??
  16. Don't forget it would take a new manager a run of games to purge RM's ways from the team. Even if the new person had an immediate effect we'd still need the form of a 50 point season over the next 23 games just to be in the mix. It's not impossible but the slope is already very steep.
  17. Don't worry Sports republic have everything under control.... ]
  18. In all honesty it's really looking too late to save us this season but if a new guy could galvanised the team and get them playing with their tails up then at least we'd go down with a chance of bouncing back. I think that's what most realistic fans would hope for now. To have a chance of survival come the final game we'd have to show the form of a 50 point season and that is not happening in the next 5-10 games. I'd love to be proved wrong though.
  19. In 40 years I have never seen a Saints team so utterly adrift as I'm seeing this season. I'm starting to seriously question if we can even get past Derby's all time low points tally of 11. I feel for the season ticket holders, this club does not seem to give a damn about it's fans.
  20. RM blaming the sending off for the outcome. Sums him up. I hope the board is looking for a new manager and being as relegation is all but mathematically certain they have the luxury now of being able to take their time. They need to get it right, another bad appointment and things could slide quite quickly. Trouble is that leads us to the biggest problem - the board itself. I don't trust them to get it right and unlike RM they are harder to get rid of. We are in a bit of a state at the moment.
  21. It seems to me that the big RM divide amongst fans are those that think the players are simply not good enough and that's not RMs fault VS others like myself who think that the players are capable of at least putting up a decent fight but that RM simply does not have what it takes. The reason I have been thinking like that since last season is because we continually suffer from self inflicted mistakes that a better manager would have corrected. For example we are constantly leaking goals with the tippy tappy football at the back, RM got away with it in the champ but not in the PL. IMO a better manager would have quickly seen that it doesn't work, scrapped it and put in a more pragmatic system that suits these players based on no nonsense defence plus fast break outs. Listening to RM last night he simply does not seem capable of seeing this and I don't think he has what it takes to adapt. We all have our opinions but for me that's why he is a very limited manager.
  22. Listening to some of his comments last night the most damning thing about him is not the losing but the fact that he's not learning anything, just goes through the same old motions. Funnily enough the pressure is off now, our fate is all but mathematically sealed and the club can take time to get a decent successor. RM has a low ceiling, we need better.
  23. The sad thing is we'll never know if this team was good enough to survive, RM isn't giving them the slightest chance to prove it.
  24. It's getting so bizarre that it makes you wonder what their game is. Most likely though it's just pure ego and incompetence.
  25. With the games coming up that looks to be that. Even if he goes on Monday it may well be too late now.
