Great player for us down the years, played a massive part in helping us drive up the leagues and progress. He has also improved immensely. Shown great leadership and determination. It's a real shame he won't see out his career here. But if he isn't happy we should let him go. Deserves a lot of respect. Unless he has acted unprofessionally. -
Give him the season. The style is boring at times, but the squad is not as a good as last year and we have played so many games, I honestly don't know what everybody is expecting him to do unless we invest more in players. My only criticism is lack of chances we create. Rotation seems to become an obsession, money footballers earn does not negate the science, that if you want athletes to perform to their best, they need to be in optimal condition, three games in six days, and three in a week for a consistent period of time, will mean rotation is necessary. I hope the players have got a stronger mentality than the fans. The reaction to just going a goal down, everything is immediate doom and gloom. The table is so tight in the middle we could finish anywhere between 7th-14th. Given we lost so many good players, had the Europa League (which I have to admit was major, major disappointment) and still in League Cup Semi-Final, I think it is acceptable. There is no doubt we should strive for continuous improvement and try not to stand still. But if the Club genuinely wants to be a top side in the league, it requires significant investment for help reduce the gap.

Uninspiring and boring. Need to add some freshness and inspiration with a couple of signings. But, watching Swansea, Sunderland etc tonight, makes you realise it could be significantly worse. Can understand the rotation for today, as we have three games in six days. At least the suspension will give VVD a mini rest, recharge his batteries. Tadic looks well below par. Romeu is the one real positive at the moment. Even if he doesn't always get it right, he always puts a shift in.

Positives + Performances of VVD, Davis, Fonte + Pressing for the first few mins, was great to see + JWP work-rate and assist Negatives: - I don't like to chose scapegoat, but aside from the free kick JWP and the midfield really failed to impose themselves - That crap song before kick off - Gulf in class between us and Spurs. They are better technically, controlled the game well. - Lack of physicality from our team, we looked really small and weak compared to them. - No one within ten yards of Jay Rod to win his knock downs. - Forster distribution The players looked out on their feet by half time and we were really second best before the red. It was a good effort, it must have been tough physically. I really think we miss a player like Graziano, technically and physically, really hope we get a striker in Jan. Hope a completely different team gets a run out against WBA. Try some fresh legs, give VVD a rest, try something new. Wish we pressed a bit more in general, independent of tonight.

Good player. But I don't think he would have any motivation to come back to us, same old city, he achieved what he wanted to with us. I also think that we need to prioritise spending in other areas e.g. striker. He will go to Everton.

He is doing pretty good I would say. The loss of Pelle and Mane are difficult to replace, if you consider the quality of player they were, and the goals they provided he is at an immediate disadvantage. He is giving more academy players a chance and we are (despite the small difference in points) in the top half of the table and League Cup Semi- Final. However, going out of the Europa was a major, major disappointment and more so to do with the style in which we went out. You can blame the manager for his approach but also point the finger at the players for not being more brave and question their desire a little. Did they want it enough? Overall he is doing well but there is certainly room for improvement with regards to playing style. It is his first season in a new league with a new team. He needs time to learn about the Premier League, he has good European experience, which unfortunately, is now less relevant. But he was signed on a two or three year contract. I just don't see any advantage of replacing him at moment. Klopp has proven that you can have an entertaining style of football and still win plenty of games and be competitive. That is something we should be working towards. A get a striker in. Back him with some more funds.

Saints 1 Hapoel Be'er Sheva 1 - Match & Meltdown Thread

Can't believe we limped out like that! Where is the passion from the players? Yes the manager sets us up, but have some bravery to take the game to the opposition. So frustrating, did they not realise the opportunity they have of playing European football. Redmond is not good enough, but I will say one thing for him, at least he bloody tries. What a waste of an opportunity! Came down to desire, there wasn't nearly enough from our side. -

anyone got a stream, internet is struggling over here, froze for the goal....

VVD was absolutely immense again. You could see his frustration at the lack of noise towards the end to help get us over the line, what a result! We really needed that and brining in the youngster gave us a real boost. It should also serve as a message to older under performing players that if you're not playing well, you won't start! Romeu, VVD, Cedric and Fonte all brilliant. Betrand getting back to his best. Still need to be more clinical though. We are so much better with our settled back five as well!

any one else? this one is hardly functioning?

I think he is a good player, but just want him to be more consistent. Okay circumstances of playing against Chelsea and Liverpool may not have played to his strengths, but to be a really good player, sometimes you need to be able to make a bigger impact in those games in order to change the direction in which it is going. However agree, the whole team struggled going forward.

What sort of reception will Koeman get?
forever a red and white replied to 9-3's topic in The Saints
If it wasn't for him we wouldn't be even the Europa League at all. Even if he did bugger off, at least he got us somewhere decent first. -
The draw is a good result and they could easily have battered us, in that respect the game plan worked. What concerns me is the lack of confidence to go forward, had they scored a goal, we didn't really look like creating anything. Okay you could argue we may have changed our game plan but it did feel a bit negative to play that way at home. Liverpool will beat a lot better teams than us away from home this season, but worse teams will give them a game, gamble a bit more going forward and maybe even get a win! If Redmond could back up his arrogance and small talk on the pitch with better performances, that would be great too. Hopefully Long will give us something extra. Would hate to be a striker in this team atm, you have to feel for Austin a little bit.

Take the rough with the smooth. You always have off days, but if we aspire for better things then results like that don't help. The way we play in general is great but sometimes we really lack a plan B.
