  1. You are looking at the situation from the position we are currently in. Yes, they would be great additions now. But, you have to remember Strachan reportedly had a number of international class players in Lowe's office at the time: Drogba, Rosicky and even Adebeyor! We were looking at that end of the market. The players you mention are not in that class...surely??!?
  2. You have to put it into context. Yes they are good players at Championship level (aside from McDonald). But Saints were in the Premiership at the time. We were looking to move up the league at the time and not into the Championship. You cannot keep Championship quality players in case you go down!!
  3. As does every manager....Hoddle signed Uwe Rosler! I think in terms of transfer dealings David Jones was fairly astutue for us. signed Dean Richards for free and we (he was not here) sold him for over £8mill; he put Bridge to left back and we sold him for over £7mill; and he signed Beattie for whom we sold for over £6mill.
  4. That is wrong! Richards was sold and we brought in Paul Williams in 2001, when WGS arrived. Killer was singed in 2002 and therefore was a WGS signing. As for the issue of whether he was a Cooper signing or not, does that mean Ronaldo was not a Ferguson signing assuming a scout found him? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Svensson
  5. I could not have put it better myself.
  6. Do you think any old Saints players would be keen to turn out with us to show a united from between ex players and fans?
  7. Why has he been blocked?
  8. Three o'clock and still no news. I would be nice for the Club to keep the fans 'in the loop' even if it was just a denial of the story. It is the same with Wotton and Hockaday (supposedly leaving). I maybe wrong, but has it ever been confirmed on the OS that Safri left?
  9. 2 others in my family...that makes 4 in the Bay. One more for a five aside team!
  10. Sh1t...did I put 10 or 11 players out this afternoon?
  11. Does anyone think we (including the echo) may have the wrong end of the stick? Lowe is meeting with the players and manager, which as stated is very unusual. He, as at yesterday, was supportive of Jan. Could the meeting be about administration and a points loss rather than a change of manager?
  12. Just ask a Nottingham Forest fan...
  13. I feel i need to state this post as the folowing saddened me today. A Saints fan was sat with his son (who was obviously a Man U fan) and was pointing out all the childs favourite Man U players. As a third generation saints fan what is currently happening to the Club is awful. When I was young and taken by my Dad I can remember going into the Junior Saints office and being known and welcomed. Saints was a really well run family club that cared about its fan base. I'm sure it was the same for my Dad when he was first taken by my Grandad. What Mr. Lowe has done since 2003 and many would argue before - is rtear the 'family' character out of OUR club. His has ruined the legacy and reputation on OUR football team and in doing so has made the City of Southampton a laughing stock. He and his supporters might own the Club on paper he will never truely be able to declare the Club theirs. The Club is owned by the thousands of fans who have continued to support the Saints through thick and thin. It is time Mr. Lowe realised this. Stop playing with the legacy of this Football Club - it would be nice for me to take my child in the future to watch a decent game of football and a well run, family football club and let them fall in love with the club as generations have done before. Let us please get back to what we do best - and if that is not what Lowe can do - he must go.
  14. Great signing if wages are reasonable!
  15. I think the point was Dyer was meant to be on loan at Sheffield at the time, but still managed to get back in time to go out! Perhaps if he'd have spent more time up there he might have made more of an impression?! Sadly I think he is a classic case of a guy who thinks he has made it and won't put in the hard yards anymore. Maybe if he spent less time having a 'life' and more time developing his career we would not even be discussing this?! One game in the Carling Cup does not equate to a career.
  16. On the BBC Saints 1976 article it says that Channon could not believe the odds for Saints winning the cup final. He thought 5-1 was long in a two horse race. The Ladbrokes website currently has us at 11/1 for Sunday. By interesting do you think he means a 'stuffing'.
  17. A quiet corner in St. Mary's?? Under Lowe's regime?? Never!
  18. The main problem with Saints is that we are fire fighting. I thas been obvious to the fans for a while that Cork is a decent player - probably the best defender we had! So why would you wait until the middle of December to try an extend the loan??!! It should have been sorted long before Watford changed there manager. This football club is a farce with a limited vision and management plan. And as Chairman and Manager the responsibility has to stop with Lowe and Jan.
  19. Well I can tell you that after the Wolves game all three of them were out in a few bars in Bedford Place.
  20. Problem then is Lowe is so ignorant he would think that the masses have come in their colours again, so it is only the minority of fans that is the problem. It is a difficult one and needs some quick thought. Having thought about it is a protest like this a good idea for the Man U game bearing in mind for a lot of the crowd it will only be their second game of the season!!!!! May be banners and chants are the most effective for this one???
  21. Could we wear a black tshirt / coat /jumper to the man u game as it is on tv to symbolise the death of out football club???
  22. I just hope that the board members plus crouch etc can see this guys obvious potential and put their hands in their pockets. It would be a good investment. Think Jan's dream of the play offs is more realistic though.
  23. All quiet on the loan front at the moment, but would you sell Lallana and/or Surman to fund a move for Cork? A young, Bristish versitile player could be worth a lot in the future??
  24. I personally think if Saints dont try and sign Cork on a perm (isn't his contract up at the end of the Season?) questions need to be asked. It is clear from his recent performances he is going to be an established Premier League player in future years, subject to injury. Any money spent on him now should be seen as an investment like Morgan. I would even be happy to see some of the more decent players in the squad sold to fund a move for Cork??
  25. Also - did anyone else look at Jan during the game? At key moments (i.e. substitutions etc) it did not even look like he was calling the shots. His coaching team were much more involved. And in the first half Alex Pearce got called to the bench (presumably to come on) 4 or 5 times in quick succession, after Surman got injured. It looked to me like the staff just don't know what they are doing...I maybe wrong.
