One thing I noticed against Palace was the way Butterfield hugged the sidelines and the defenders were never drawn out to him, giving that extra second for him to aim his cross. Having watched the extended highlights from Saturday exactly the same thing happened for Guly's first. What a cross that man has.

Seems to be a lot of stories about Sean O'Driscoll getting the job today.

Butterfield has a fantastic cross on him and that showed throughout last season. Richardson is clearly physically stronger, but I guess it is down to horses for courses, similar to Morgan and Hammond.

I would agree about United and the dark days, but now we are regularly getting 25,000+.

Fantastic performance, Guly upfront seems like a decent option! Chaplow was sensational and Fonte looked back to his best. That Lambert volley was a cracker. Roll on the Posh!

Almost sounds as though you're shifting the blame onto his teammates. He said it was his worst game ever, I don't think more first team players would have improved it. At the end of the day we have stiff competition in the squad for a reason.

Without Lallana I would like to see Chaplow and Guly start out wide, although Richard has probably earned his place in the middle by now. Don't think SDR should start after his performance on Tuesday, based on that he is far more effective from the bench.

Have to disagree, second half he barely saw the ball and first half he was very poor. His corners were dreadful too.

Don't think open training sessions happen at Staplewood anymore. Thursday is press day if we're playing on the Saturday, but not for the public.

Just back now, Palace is annoying to get to by train. Pretty dull game and I'm surprised anybody managed to score within the 90 minutes! Reeves looked bright, with some Lallana-esque touches. JWP had a confident game in midfield and should be proud at just 16. Forte didn't really seem bothered and I though De Ridder had easily his worst game in a Saints shirt. Morgan absolutely ran the show from defense to attack and was superb all night. Despite people's criticisms I actually thought Butterfield did very well down the right, considering it was his first game this season, and Richardson now certainly has competition. It was the tipping point of the tournament for it to become important, we've gone out, time to move on. Oh and the fans were excellent tonight, made some great noise and to have 2,571 for a Tuesday night Carling Cup game is fantastic.
