Time for Roy to show the same sort of 'bravery' and not pick the likes of Lampard and Cole for his World Cup squad

This thread was an embarassment to the true fans when it was started, and is beyong rididiculous now. Can't believe how negative and defeatist Poyet is, they're meant to be fighting for their lives and he comes out and admits that they are as good as relegated, nearly as unbelievable a thing to say as those on here who would rather get relegated and lose a final than be in 8th place

He's not the first player to suffer this sort of injury. He's still a good age and he has a great future ahead of him

Think he would have made the 30 amd then been dropped. He's had a far better season and is a better player but Roy was always going to take the safe option of Welbeck, even if J Rod went on to score 20 goals. Welbeck is average at best, but has played at a tournament and scored for England. He will only take 4 strikers, it'll be Rooney, Sturridge, Welbeck and one of Carroll or Lambert. It's awful news for him, but at least it makes things easier for Hodgson, who can now pretend he was considering him

Very bad news, could take a long time to get back to his best. Couldn't have come at a worse time, although he wouldn't have gone to the World Cup he was really starting to hit top form. Hope he has a full recovery and comes back stronger than ever

Can't see him beating it, how many penalties have we had this season? Man City, Hull at home, can't recall many others. Still, there's nothing better as a Saints fan than knowing that as soon as the ref points to the spot we will be scoring within a few seconds

Quite ridiculous that people were saying he was past it a few months ago. Sure, he had a poor spell of form but thats the same for every player. It's the sign of a quality player when they can still get 10 assists and 11 goals at the top level when they're old and past it. Would love nothing more than to see him get some game time at the World Cup because nobody deserves it more

Even if he gets to the 20 goal mark, I don't think Roy will have space for him in the final 23 unless Welbeck gets injured.

This will sound harsh, but with the amount of chances he misses, he should have a lot more goals. Easily our most improved player this season, and the way he's been playing there's no reason he can't get to the 20 goal mark

I'd say around 100 million, we're that far off still. I have to agree with Barry though. We're only 3 places off but the difference in overall squad strength is still massive. It's very difficult though to anticipate what will happen regarding transfers and spending in the summer.

It really is difficult to tell isn't it? Not sure I can see KL and Ralph splashing the cash. I think Shaw's gone, but we might be able to hold on to some of the others

Sadly in this day and age it does simply just come down to money. Ok, Rickie saying top 4 as an aim is a bit stupid, but then so is trying to claim we will make a world beating side from a team full of academy products. I think a figure of £100 million would only be enough to make us top 6 candidates. £200 million and only then would we be buying players good enough to challenge at the top. That's just the way it is. I think it's fair to say we're all in the dark over the owner and Chairman's plans for the summer, it is difficult to tell whether or not we will be splashing the cash. Add in the uncertainty of several of our best players staying or leaving, and things really could go either way. We might push on, but more likely go the same way that Swansea have this season. I'd be disappointed if we don't invest heavily though, we should get around £25-£30 million to Shaw who I think is a certainty to leave, plus £10 million for Osvaldo.

Never accept 2nd best, isn't that right Glasgow? Aiming for 4th shows a real lack of ambition, especially for a side with a lot of players linked to the top sides

Allardyce is getting a bit annoying, he talks about Carroll and the World Cup every press conference. To be fair you could argue that Crouch is more deserving of a spot than he is

He looked good in the cup game, think he's the sort of player we could develop, similarly to J Rod. Burnley look like they're promoted, but 8-10 million should do the job, far less of a gamble than Osvaldo IMO

Think you got your percentages a bit. I would estimate that at least 60% predicted 9th-12th, with a few going for 7th or 8th. 65% 5th to 8th? Few deluded posters on here but not that many. If it bothers you that much, go and support Chelsea, they've got a decent record against the top 10
