In what year can we realistically challenge Europe's
Turkish replied to Barry Sanchez's topic in The Saints
I'm sure the Wigan fans aren't at all excited about their FA cup semi final against championship opposition which means a great chance of the final. It cant be very exciting being them. -
They've already got two keepers better than Davis.

Yet despite Wigans supposed lack of ambition they are pushing for a trophy by being in the FA Cup semi final and a very good chance of making it to the final. -
Wayne Bridge second on F365's list of overcapped England players

Behave. John Barnes was like the Frank Lampard of the 80's. Brilliant for his club but never did it in an England shirt. -
Considering he never picked him here, that is highly unlikely.

Lets just hope his vision doesn't include signing London born players. Literally 3 of them failed to settle in the 60's and 70's. -

Why would the club be better without fans like me? -

"so called fan"? My first game was in 1985. apart from a 4 year period in the mid 00's and the same in the 90's when i was playing on saturdays (Still went when wasn't playing and to evening games) i've probably only missed on average 2-3 games a season since 1989 as well as going to between 7-10 away games on average a season. My dad is a season ticket holder, my brother and sister are season ticket holders i am a season ticket holder. You think the club would "a million times better off" without fans like me? -

Can you imagine 6,000 Saints fans at the Nou Camp with loads dressed up in clown suits, road cone hats and other forms of fancy dress? Our embarassment would be world wide. -

It couldn't get much worse. -
Seeing as he was here before Adkins that's unlikely.

quite. As soon as they signed Cole the writing was on the wall and he should have moved on. he was happy to sit on the bench for three years collecting his big wages and a few medals but doing little to earn them. It's telling that he made almost twice as many appearances in 5 years at saints, some of this when he was just breaking into the side, than he did in 6 years at Chelsea. -

It's a bit of rewriting of history though. In Bridges prime which were his last two season at Saints and first couple at Chelsea there were precious few left sided players about. He was undoubtedly one of the best left sided players about 2001-2005. At one point Bridge even played left midfield for England such was the dearth of quality left sided players. In his day he was a very good left back but lost it towards the end at Chelsea and has never been the same player. -
No chance. Cortese signings.

No idea. Wolves shouldn't have been and neither should Man United. If the players are in their 25 man squad then why is it a problem? Why should anyone else dictate who a club manager can pick?

How long will it be before we are as big as we were in 2003?
Turkish replied to Roger's topic in The Saints
Depends what you mean by "prem experience" I seem to recall a lot of the helmets on here mentioning Kieran Dyer everytime premier league experience was mentioned. Like it or not we were always going to be in a battle to stay up this season and i for one certainly felt that some of our players would have benefitted from having a couple of experienced heads around them in this first season, especially at centre back in the first 10-15 games when we seemed to make mistake after mistake at the back and only Yoshida looked anything remotely like a premier league level centre half but was still finding his feet. -
Harrogate Chaos Crew FFS!!! Is this like a mongboard version of the final scene in Scooby Doo? Rips off mask to reveal true identity, Super Mikey is shocked at who it is, meanwhile i cry "and i'd have got away with it if it wasnt for you pesky kids"?

Turkish replied to Roger's topic in The Saints
Financially yes, i agree. The fact remains though that we were in a very good position in 2003 and blew it by poor signings, changing managers and IMO trying to be too clever and doing things on the cheap. We ended up with 30 odd average to poor players when we should have signed quality. -
What's the point of having a 25 man squad if you get fined for only playing the ones other people think you should? Fergie, to his credit, has shown many times he wont be dictated to about who to pick. He'll pick and send out teams to win both matches.

I agree.

We were in a healthy position in 2003 too. 8th place finish and a cup final with a good core of players in Niemi, Svensons x 2, Oakley, Beattie, Bridge, Pahars (although his injury problems had started by then). It was the faliure to push on from there that cost us. A succession of poor signings with player either not good enough or past there best together with a revolving door management policy. Who could forget the signings of McCann, Van Damme, Nielsen, Jackobson, Kenton before Redknapp even arrived. with the likes of Dodd, Lundekvam, le Saux aging we really screw up a great chance to progress to the fabled next level. In fact it's arguable that the only signing we made post cup final that was a success was Peter crouch and that only for 1/2 season. -
Why should they? If they are in their 25 man squad that they handed in in August then what's the problem?
-
Why are you surprised? They are a poorly supported club, it's an early kick off so they can watch it on telly and catch up with their first teams results on soccer saturday.

First person i thought of was Billy Sharp.
