I don't nessasairly buy this left sided and right sided centre half thing. Its only been an issue since Adkins said he prefers left footed centre halves playing on the left side so that it is easier to play out from the back. Before them wed never discussed it. I'd rather have two good solid centre halves that can defend properly who are right footed than two average ones (like we have) playing on their favoured foot side. Rio Ferdinand and Vidic are both right footed, doesn't seem to have been a problem for them for the last few seasons.

Nicholl had a good eye for a centre half didn't he. Osman, Moore, Ruddock, Hall, top defenders signed for a very small a,ount of money and that Osman apart not many had heard of when they joined us. Guess that is what comes from a manager knowing the position well.

Mark Blake played a view games for the first team in the 80s, he was a local lad and a decent centre half although played most of his games at a lower level. Another one like that was Steve Davis, who I quite rated at the time but he left for Burnley after a handful of first team appearances.

We don't need potential, we've got enough of that. We need 3 solid, proven, experienced players. We should have got them in the summer, we didn't. If we can't play Boruc now after he's been here 3 months we never will. How long does it take to get fit FFS? I hope Boruc is the answer otherwise he's been a disaster of signing.

MLT was fat, slow, lazy and unfit. Take penalties out of his record and his goal scoring record is average at best. Let's not delude ourselves into thinking MLT is a great guy and loves the fans, he was paid to be here and earnt a very good wage out of the club. He was an employee, nothing more, nothing less. Cortese is the future, leave Matt in th past where he belongs and where he appears to still live.

If more clubs did it instead of buying in foreigner players then it'd be great for English football. we just shouldn't delude ourselves Into thinking its a given and because a few players show a bit of promise they are automatically going to become first team players, the realty it its much more likely they don't.

For a start Stephens isn't home grown, we signed him from Plymouth 2 years ago. There have also been bold claims made by the club that we want to get into th champions league. If we are to do this we are going do it with half of them being academy players we need to develop and retain 9 players out of the matchday 18 who are top 4 standard. 9 Walcott, Chamberlain and Bales if you will, all of which stay with us l not be tempted by a Man U, Arsenal or Liverpool dangling £70k a week contracts under their noses. So let's just confirm this, for us to achieve the champions league aims of the club and also our academy making up 50% of the team, that is 9 academy players of top international standard, all happy to ignore the overtures of bigger clubs to stay with Saints. How many clubs have ever achieved this? we've got a few decent players in the youth side, Reeves, Stephens, Sinclair etc, but it's one thing to look decent in a run out in a cup game against a lower league side, or playing for what is effectivly a youth team, its quite another to establish yourself as a first team player in a premier league side. History is littered with players who've played a few first team games, looked okay or be youth team starts but never established themselves as top flight players.

As I said I'm not saying it as FACT but I was told a similar version of events From two different people who dont know each other, one has connections at SFC the other doesn't. I'm not 100% sure of all the details but in essence Adkins did all the leg work on the deal with the permission of the committee and had it agreed with Player and club, passed it to Cortese who dithered and then refused to agree it for whatever reason. Just what I was told.

I agree. It's not just limited to directors either, there have been a few fans have got carried away in the past as well.

There are strong rumours that ive heard from a couple of different sources that Adkins had a deal agreed for Robert Huth in the summer and Cortese refused to rubber stamp it. I'm not claiming this to be FACT just passing on what ive been told and no, I'm no revealing my sources and I don't give a sh*t if you beleive it or not.
