So what we are saying is in the last 20 years only Man United and Barcelona in the entire world have managed to finish in the top 6 of their leagues regularly with half a squad made up of academy products. I can see why people think it'll be so easy for Saints.

How far are we off a Top 6 place (fifth or sixth in all reality)?

What MLG means is he isn't listed as a striker on Football manager. -
So there we have it then, the biggest club in the world that won the treble with those players are the only ones in 20 odd years to achieve this feat which is entirely possible for Saints. This is what we are trying to achieve, most of these players that are Going to come through are going to have to be not only the best in England, but amongst the best in Europe if they're going to keep up in the top 6. We need 2 Bales for every Leon Best and Chris Baird and for them all to come through within 5 years of each other. To think this will happen and them all stay at Saints and not be picked up by the bigger clubs is incredibly deluded.

Now now Tajjuk, just because your comments are often made to look idiotic, don't get upset and resort to the usual 'trolling' accusations BTW can you name the teams that have finished in the top 6 in the last 20 years with half the squad column through the academy which people are claiming is entirely possible for us to do?

This is a good read on the UI from Tijuanua Tim, who became good friends with Ron. http://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/southampton/fb_mb.php?m=v&t=81743#9

What a strange post, We don't have over half of those players.

Di Matteo turned us down twice, in the summer and in December.

Hilarious how everyone is slagging off Hughes, seems to be another mboards classic of writing off a manager without looking at the reality. He did an excellent job with Wales and Blackburn, where they finished 6th and 7th and qualified for Europe, reasonable jobs at Fulham, where they finished 8th and again got Europen football and Man City, where is was widely regard that he was harshly sacked. The only place he's done badly is at he train wreck that is QPR and even then he did no worse than Redknapp who spent another £20 odd million in The January transfer window. Mark Hughes makes perfect sense and has done very well with two clubs of similar size. Still, keep writing him off mboard.

How many other clubs have produced and kept half a squad of players from their academy which gave been good enough for top 6 finishes?
-
Why, are you just about to bore us with some more stats.
-
Probably wants something off Cortese and using the press and social media to strengthen his position. Good work MP.
-
So just to confirm you DO NOT need to get it serviced every 20,000 in addition to this, just as and when the service indicator lights come on get that particularly thing sorted?
-
You think we'll produce half a top 6 squad from our academy?
-
Disgusting if he's using the media to get what he wants, isn't it...........

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22699324 Some interesting comments that it will take serious investment of a couple of hundred million for Swansea to Break onto the top 6 and appears to believe they have hit the glass ceiling as far as league positions go. I found this interesting as they are ahead of us and already a decent established mid table side. We've been told on here recently that this current squad is good enough to finish 6th and that you don't need heavy investment to break into the top 6. We are also aiming to finish in these places next season are we not? What do we think Saintsweb? Is Laudrup talking out of his arse and we are going to show Him how it's done? Or is he right and Swansea do need a £200m worth of players to break into the top 6?

20-22 good players, 4-5 good youth players.

do you get hungry at 2.30 and 3.45 on a normal working day and have to pop down to the local burger bar to fill your greedy face?
-
Isn't it amazing how little people can do without eating.
-
Why people need to stuff their face as soon as they enter a football stadium is beyond me. No wonder so many football fans are fat.
-
FFS Krackers, dont you know we turned down a whole host of international brands that were literally queuing up to sponsor us to show our commitment to the local business community? Massive tsk

his "Kelvin Davis rumour" thread was one for mboard folklore. -
Mine had a service light indicator which flashes up what needs maintenance next and how many miles, ie Oil change due in 1300 miles, shows up when I turn it on. It also has the same thing for brakes, brake fluid and other things and how mnay miles until they need doing, do I just get the various bits sorted as and when the indicator tells me they need it or do i still need to get it serviced every 20,000 or so in addition to this as with other cars I've had?

I would say challenging for and winning the leagues, cups and champions leagues could be considered non stop success for a club like us wouldn't you? That is what you said would happen when we 'kick on' from our 4th place finish and succeed where Sours, Everton, Leeds, Newcatle failed yes? Yep, it's gone really well for you, denying people think finishing 4th is the launch pad to better things, then claiming that is exactly what it would be!!
