You're right, we should be emulating them. Certainly not Reading who didn't go mad signing premier league players in their last stint in top flight and were relegated after a top half first season finish.

Ipswich made Europe in their first season. Didn't help them in their second.

Decision day tomorrow. How are us potential mods feeling? Anxious? Nervous? Confident? This is a massive moment in my life. Thats exactly what happens. Once a player has agreed terms and clubs agreed a fee they all have a look on the clubs biggest mongboard for a view on how popular they will be before signing. I have it on good authority that the Gorkss deal fell through be used he wasn't happy with Alpine,DPS and hypos comments about him and Fontaines injury was a smokescreen the real reason didn't sign was because Cortese read a few comments on here that we should be aiming higher than an injury prone journyman from Bristol so pulled the plug on it.

Exactly. CBs are a key position, if you can't defend you struggle.

Players that can go to Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge and not be overawed by it. Players that are used to the premier league hype.How do we know any of our players can make the step up? Who with any experience is going to be around to help them along if they start to struggle? We might think Lallana and Schniderlin and Lambert are going to take to the Premier league like a duck to water but how many times in the past have we seen good championship players not cut it? Gary Mcsheffery, Rob Earnshaw, Gregorz Rasiak!!! It's not just about being a good player but about being able to go to these places and perform and not be too downhearted if we get a pasting and be able to cope with the pressure of what is likely to be a relegation battle. Our team has and 3 years of success and winning, it'd be much better if we had 2-3 players come in who have been there and done it.

Why is it a myth? You need leaders and you need experience. For a club that is telling everyone that will listen we are going to challenging for the title in a couple of year times I would have expected more than signing players from the championship. I'd have expected proven premier league players.

Pessimism or realism? We are lacking experience and we are lacking quality in defence. Successful teams and in our case this season staying up is success isn't achieved by attempting to out score teams but defending well and being difficult to beat. We aren't strong defensively when under pressure, this was proven on a number of occasions last season. How many times did we win because we defended brilliantly?

I expected a few players like we've got plus two or three experienced heads that have a few years experience in the premier league. Not stars but players like Danny Murphy (although not him) that have been around a while and know what its all about.
