  1. As i said above i am not picking and choosing, just commenting on what limited knowledge i have. Unlike you i dont have an axe to grind with a book 5,000 years old and spent my life researching it by the sounds of it. Like anything, religion and the bible its a case of you can read into it what you like and take it as literally as you like, some will say it condones murders, rape etc, other religions will argue it doesn't or is not all meant to be taken literally. And you are relying on a book which is bound to be inaccurate simply due to the amount of time it has been translated through history, there are bound to be errors. It all happened 5,000 years ago and i am not particularly religious although i do think there is something there and think the bibles principles provide a decent moral code to live by. What i do know is for a lot of people that need it religion and the bible provides comfort, faith, contentment with their life etc, didn't Karl Marx call it the opium of the people, live and let live as everyone on here would say.
  2. Yes i do, because i wasn't talking about people being killed if they dont keep to them! As i said above it's guidance, it was written 5,000 years ago and gave the Jews a code to live their lives by, reading the code and taking it as simply that would give people a pretty decent and moral way of living their lives, i dont see how you can argue that point.
  3. No, if everyone applied the commandments there be no murders, no stealing and everyone would be a lot safer, it's if they didn't aply them there'd be problems, but maybe that is the deterant serial burglars & muggers need!
  4. Oh i know it happens. But what would happen if it happened to you? Or maybe you have indirectly answered that already?
  5. Oh god Jackanory, you've started him off again.
  6. So you agree that if everyone applied the ten commandments then the world would be a much better place? I'm not picking and choosing, just speaking about the parts i know about from my limited knowledge of the book. I dont have the time or interest to look into it in any further detail, certainly not to look through 50 odd scriptures online to see if you are right or wrong and that there might or might not have been ocasions where God said murder was okay. It's a minefield which people have been aruging about for centuries and will continue to do so. In a book which covers 2,000 odd years, 60 odd writers, been transalated god knows how many times from and ancient language and covered most of the ancient world you'll always get contradictions and different versions of the same events.
  7. see my opening post, she said i'd be gone, fair enough, couldn't have any complaints. SO come on, what about you? I really find it difficult to believe that any woman would come home and find her fella in her clothes and make up and shrug her shoulders and get onto the La Senza website to buy them both some sexy underwear do you?
  8. Do unto others as you would have them do to you? The ten comandments gave the jews a code of conduct to live their life by. it might sound dated now but this was written 5,000 years ago, (or 2,000 if you listen to verbal but thats another story) i dont think there is much wrong or missing and if everyone applied them today, ie no murder, stealing, jealousy and showing respect and honour everyone the world would be a much better place. Right or wrong?
  9. But what would your woman do (assuming you have one) if she came home and found you dressed in her clothes and make up? Would she not find it odd, or we she stick the kettle on make a cup of tea and ask you what you want for dinner? It's all very well saying "f*ck it, let people live how they want" but if that was you in that situation would you still think the same way? I bet 95% of the "live and let live" brigade wouldn't react like that if something upset their safe, timid, mainstream existances.
  10. yeah but i really couldn't be arsed looking them all up on the internet. I've not really got any views for or against on the bible but from my limited knowledge of it, like anything there are good and bad and the some of the fundemental teachings in there are generally a pretty good basis to live your live by.
  11. it's all for attention. If someone was serious about killing themselves they wouldn't be on top of a bridge for 10 hours whilst people talk them out of it. Whoever it is wil come down. If you are going to do it then you'd just get on with it or do it privately, overdose or something rather than making a big song and dance about it. Oh, just seen, he's come down. What a surprise. http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/8851088.Bridge_reopens_after_man_talked_off_ledge/
  12. thank f*ck for that, i was worried about you. I was expecting the police to ask me to go down and identify you.
  13. It really makes no odds to me either way to be honest.
  14. He did, in the book of Corinthians. This is the earliest surviving mention of the last supper, apparantly......
  15. I quite agree Deppo, based on the liberal society they wanted. I just want to know what our forum superstars think of it.
  16. Nope what? So the apostle Paul who wrote about the final supper as was also at it, does not provide a first hand account?
  17. Why woud i take your word for it? I've done research on it before and In the Hebrew Bible, the narratives of Moses are in Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. Many of these accounts are of when Moses was instructed to take the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt and to the promised land. He was there, he wrote the books, how is this wrong? How is this not first hand?
  18. What about the apostles that were at the final supper? or is that not a first hand account?
  19. Weren't the first five books written by Moses, much of which was about leading the Jews out of slavery and across the wilderness, which he did himself. I'd say that's pretty first hand wouldn't you?
  20. So not "mostly written" by Romans at all then. Unless they are brilliant at giving first hand accounts of things that happened in other lands 1,000's of years before, like Moses taking the Israelites from slavery, King David etc.....
  21. Is that a fact or speculation based on your opinon?
  22. I wondered where Liquidshokk was this morning.
  23. Sounds like you've got a dose to me, you need to have a word with your bird (or bloke) and find out who has been filling their slot as well.
  24. Turkey? That's clever that, well done you. Genius. I'm glad to surrounded by such lovely fair minded people where anything goes
